My Hometown Chicago Research Paper

When I think about the question ‘Who am I?’ I immediately begin to think of my hometown Chicago. Growing up in the intercity, has really influenced my outtake on life and my personality. It’s well known that Chicago has a high crime rate and its gun problems and gun laws. Those things are taken serious, however, to me it just reminds me that life is really short. You could be here today and gone tomorrow. Realizing that at a young age, reminded me to not dwell on things that are not worth my time or to waste anybody else’s time. For instance, if there is a bump in the road, I’m going to try everything in my power to fix it or making better. However, if I can’t find a solution, I’m moving on to something else with equal or more importance. Living in a big city everything is fast paced. It’s kind of like New York, where people are always on the move and constantly have somewhere to go. In other words, we move with a purpose. Therefore, it seems to us that there is no time for smiling and stopping to talk to strangers when we are out and about. I’m no different from the people in my city, at first, I’m not that friendly and I have to warm up to my surroundings. I like to observe and take in all new environments first before I can just jump right in. …show more content…
There is a Chinatown, little Italy, Jew Town, little village and many more. It’s safe to say Chicago is a melting pot for different cultures and most of the time they intervene. Growing up here, I had a chance to go into these communities to learn their cultures and eat their traditional foods. Doing this made me an open-minded person and I’m willingly to learn and accept anything. Those experiences made sensitive to other people’s struggles. It helped me not be prejudice towards other races and that they are Human just like us, no matter how the media tries to depict
