It all started in senior year of high school, a moment where, because of my lack of effort at certain times of my teenage life, I was left with very few options regarding where I could go pursue my education after graduating high school. It is important to emphasize that although I wasn’t sure what exactly I was capable of, I was sure that I was capable of great things and high school failed to inspire me to become the best person I could be. I was disoriented yet self-assured. Luckily, thanks to some thoughtful people who guided me in the right moment, I was able to get in to the Macklin Business Institute at Montgomery College and I was given the opportunity to try out and get recruited to play for MC soccer team. The experiences that followed…
I would first like to thank Frostburg State University for accepting me in their institution and giving me the chance to further my education after my high school scholar years. I have enjoyed my time at Frostburg State University and with hard work I have been able to make the dean’s list and be accepted in the Honors program during the first semester of my freshman year. I hope to continue to work even harder during the second semester and throughout my school career. As a small university, Frostburg has enabled me to benefit from many things, such as the small size classes. Now that I have gotten used to college and life on campus, I believe it is time to continue to push myself to work harder and to attend an institution where I could be academically challenged and can be surrounded by many people who share my profession.…

As a baby, I had whooping cough, measles, chickenpox, and scarlet fever.…
Over the last decades, the achievement gap between white and black students has grown significantly due to a plethora of reasons such as race, income, and lack of a quality education. The purpose of my auto-ethnography is to explore how race and inequality played a role in my high school and has contributed to the ever growing epidemic of blacks having access to a quality and equal education. In order, to execute my purpose, I want to illustrate how living in a low income, crime infested community, and predominately black community has contributed to high school dropouts, underqualified teachers, and low test scores. Including real personal examples of how obtaining an education in my community has not only aided and abetting the advancement of whites not only for me, but rest of my fellow counterparts. I will be linking my high school experiences to different epidemics that surround education and the…

My most meaningful achievement was the birth of my children. Joseph T. Gray (21) and Joezette T. Gray (18). The world revolved around my children. My life passion was to give them unconditional love and my full attention as a parent. Unfortunately I allowed my devotion to my children to stop the passions I had for my professional dreams.…
It’s not easy, growing up in the south as an African-American girl. I couldn't help the color of my skin, and I couldn't change that I was born into a poor, black family, but that was just the way it was. Growing up how and where I did may not have been easy, but I wouldn’t change a thing because that shaped me into one of the most admired African-American writers in working today. (Biography).…
Music blasting, people dancing, and smiles all around is the typical setting of a Lebanese gathering. My culture plays a great role in shaping who I am as an individual with the various traditions and customs tied to my Lebanese heritage. Being a Lebanese American and having to cope with the blending of cultures has built a bridge of social and emotional challenges throughout the course of my life. Due to the cultural environment I grew up in, I learned the value of hard work, culture, and education.…
When people ask “Who are you”, I respond by saying “I am Meaghan. ” I find it difficult to describe myself because in my mind, I have not done that many notable things. In actuality, I have achieved so many amazing things. One thing that has shaped me into the person I am today is the sport of golf. My best friend convinced me to join the team my sophomore year.…
Leaving a Legacy Abraham Lincoln once said, “In the end, it 's not the years in your life that count. It 's the life in your years.” (Quotes) The quality of a person’s life can be determined by many different components. Some people define their lives on things such as wealth or materialistic items while others base theirs on the experiences they have gone through or the knowledge they have gained over time.…
Throughout my entire academic journey, I have been through an abundance of ups and downs. Most of my academic success and triumphs began in high school. During elementary and middle school, my academic journey was very mediocre. During high school, I achieved many things such as placing first in the districts history fair, graduating with my A.A. degree in sociology, and being captain of my high school soccer team. I also faced some very devastating challenges involving myself and my family.…
