My High School Soccer Career

Bzzzzzzzzz!

“Ugh!” I begrudgingly mutter to myself as I roll over to shut off the cacophony coming from my alarm clock. I trudge into the bathroom to take a shower where I see a despondent face staring back at me in the mirror. Before I know it I am sitting in traffic on my 2 hour and 15 minute commute to my office when BANG! An 18 wheeler truck smashes my rear bumper. While exchanging insurance information I yet again see a reflection of my morose face in the tinted window of my car. An hour later, I step into my office, I am greeted by my boss. While he vigorously and violently shakes his arms and yells at the top of his lungs I stare back at an image of my glum face in my black computer screen. Throughout the day I anxiously count down

Proof of this can first be seen through my high school soccer career. During my Sophomore and Junior years, I was chosen to play on the JV team which is something that would discourage most players. Once my senior year came along, I could either settle and be a bench player or work hard and become a starter. In the offseason I dedicated time to training sessions with my teammates, lifting weights, and going on runs. Ultimately, I was chosen as a co-captain and at the end of the season, I led the team in both goals and assists. Additionally, I carry my dedicated work ethic both on the soccer field and in the classroom as I am able to maintain a rank in the top 3.5% of my class. I challenge myself by taking rigorous courses, while I am able to fully understand the material and maintain a high grade. My work ethic is something that I will always carry with me and has been the foundation of all my …show more content…
I would answer, “I wanna be successful!” Ever since I was young, success was something that I craved; however, as I’ve matured, my definition of success has changed. At first I defined success as being wealthy, but as my life has progressed, I’ve realized that not everything in life is about money. Personally, to be successful, I want to make a difference in the lives of others. In my future, I plan on allowing a mix of my passions for hard work, travel, and risk taking to steer the way towards my success. I see myself traveling overseas to a third world country to help transform the lives of less fortunate children, whether it be teaching them English, supplying them with adequate soccer gear so they can have some fun, or mentoring them to pursue an education. I know with my work ethic, my ability to see the world differently, and my risk taking, I will be able to overcome any obstacles that cross my path, which will allow me to change the lives of others and live my own version of a successful

My ultimate goal from attending the Academy would be to look in the mirror at the end of the four years and see a man who has grown physically stronger, mentally wiser, and morally cleaner than the seventeen year old who is currently typing this essay. To transform this goal from a pipe dream to a reality would take a tremendous amount of hard work and diligence. However, despite my many shortcomings, these two traits are something that I possess with abundance. After initially struggling to adapt to the physicality and technique of travel and varsity soccer, I came to the brutal conclusion that I will never possess the talent or skill that many of my competitors contain. I realized that in order to close the talent divide that stretched before me, I was going to have to outwork my competitors in every possible way.…

In elementary school, my mom brought me to my first Ole Miss soccer game. As the players warmed up, Hannah Weatherly, an All-American forward, inspected the Mississippi State players like a spider stalking its prey. As the referee’s lips touched the whistle to start the game, the players hustled as if their lives depended on it. Throughout the game, shots were fired; penalties were taken, and tackles were made. The fans throughout the game boasted, “Hotty Toddy!”…

Failure is all around us, for most of us it is a daily occurrence even with little things like failing a quiz or missing a shot in your game. I believed I worked hard and I should have been able to accomplish this goal of mine. I worked hard throughout the summer and tried my hardest to keep up with the other girls so I would make Varsity.…

Person High School has also helped me discover who I am as a young adult and establish better social skills through my involvement in their Varsity Soccer Team. My involvement taught me how to work with people outside my social group. Many times you don’t get to choose the person you will work a task with, or who you have to help, and sometimes that person isn’t someone you get along with. If a task is hard and undesirable, it doesn’t mean you give up; it means you should work hard to finish it with a positive attitude. Through high school soccer you learn the values of disciplines, honesty and responsibility.…

Without soccer, I would not know how to tell my story. I didn't have much free time for soccer teams when I was young because I had to take care of my 5 younger brothers when my mom wasnt home. But in sixth grade our neighborhood was full of Latinos that loved soccer, so that is how I started to become more passionate about it. Our neighborhood did not have a nice field. It didn't have goals or markings, it was pretty much dirt and grass.…

If it wasn’t for soccer my work ethic would have been absolutely terrible. All of my coaches I have played under have always required the very best no matter what the circumstance is; on the pitch, in the classroom, or in everyday life you had to put one hundred percent in everything you do, or else there’s somebody is ready to take your job. One example is my sophomore year in high school my coach said I would get big minutes this year. That was not the case my touch on the ball, and work ethic dropped off when I was subbed out for a much better player early in the season after our foreign exchange students came to play with us. Near the end of the season I decided to change my position to a place where I would get more playing time; I moved up in age group to play with and against much better competition.…

The roar of the engine sends my heart racing as I pull out on to the track, one lap around and we are off, trucks at my side as we glide around the turns. The slick dirt pulling my back end around I move my hands, my automatic controls, the only thing keeping me from spinning out. It’s funny really because clichés aren’t my thing, however, at times idioms are just the thing to describe a situation or time period in one’s life, for instance the saying that “life is a roller coaster” couldn’t be more fitting for my life. The ups and downs, the highs and the lows, the twists and turns, life is just one big adrenaline rush and at times I feel I’m a junking, addicted to life.…
