My Hero's Journey

For my 13th birthday I finally got my passport and ticket for the ship Albano to go to America. I have to go all the way to Tramore from New Ross. Looking around I see a twisting path from the top of my horse, Abelard, I start along the road and just ride along. I stay each night in a different town. In each town I eat only what is necessary, but feed my horse well. It is all well and truly enjoyable and I reach Tramore by the end of the 2nd day. I looked around and saw an old lady buying and selling horses. I went over to her and starting bargaining to sell Abelard since I could not take him on the ship with me. It took me well over an hour and several fighting matches, one of which times she slapped me. In the end I got a rather good deal for 60 gold pieces. …show more content…
I went to the woods and saw a camp I walked over and saw a boy was sitting down. I went to the opposite side of the road and set up camp there. I went to sleep, but kept on waking up and making sure nobody stole my stuff. In the morning it was time to get on the ship I saw the boy across the road packing up too. It seemed he might be getting on the same boat as I. I finished packing about the same time he did and we started along the road to the boat. We got on the boat and had our passports and tickets inspected. I was directed to the bottom of the boat. I chose my place carefully. In the corners it was driest because the sides of the large underwater human storage area were tilted sideways. Apparently, my fellow passengers weren't the brightest bunch. They were mostly huddled in the middle. I went and set up in top right corner. It was all well and fun until somebody came up and told me to move. The person was small just a small boy of about 12. I decided to let him stay in the corner since he was smart enough to figure out what the others hadn't. I saw the boy who walked with me coming

The term “hero” has been around since the late fourteenth century; however, the term is of an uncertain origin (Etymology, paragraph 2). Based upon controversial etymology beliefs, Webster’s Dictionary defines a ‘hero’ as an individual that is admired for his or her great acts or fine qualities. According to Joseph Campbell, the author of The Hero with a Thousand Faces, an individual must go through the cycle of the hero 's journey. The life of a real life hero is reflected by the epic literary example “The Hero’s Journey” that is exhibited in the book The Hero with a Thousand Faces; therefore, a hero in today’s world must undergo the same twelve stages that are listed in “The Hero’s Journey.” The hero’s journey is known for telling…

I look up at the sky, and close my eyes. Attempting to imagine myself anywhere else, but on an old stale ship filled with 30 other men for what seemed like decades, although, in reality only measures up to a few weeks. I give up my feeble attempt at day dreaming, open my eyes and look around. Taking in the smells of the salty see and a vague underlying odor of sweat and musk that has accumulated along this never ending journey. But I must admit, I would take this stinky old ship over the guillotine back at home any day.…

Joseph Campbell, the creator of the hero’s journey, did a lot of research on ancient mythology. He discovered that many heroes travel the same paths to becoming a hero. Campbell decided that heroes come across many challenges that are put into stages and in those stages the hero grows closer to the reward at the end. I am definitely not a hero, but my journey of finding Christ and giving my life to him has absolutely made me into a better person overall. As I look at my journey of finding Christ, I see that it has many similarities to Campbell’s Hero’s Journey.…
