The stiff air mattress was about as comfortable to lay on as the concrete floor that lie underneath. The white brick walls were cold and the bookshelf across the room was coated in dust. As James arose next to me, I remembered that we were here for an adventure. We began our quest to rid this home of any dragons or warlocks. As the search continued we stumbled upon a SAGA gaming system. Once we figured out how to work the device we decided to continue our adventure inside the realm of Sonic the Hedgehog. After an hour of exploring with the mysterious blue hedgehog our mother appeared out of a dark corner. As I turned toward her I noticed that she was not in her usual blue jeans and T-shirt. Instead she was inside a black pantsuit. I couldn’t help but notice her red, puffy cheeks and downcast face. This was serious business so James and I turned off the SAGA. Once we turned back to her, she had begun sniffling and tears were streaming down her face. I then reassured my mother that her brave children had already taken out all the monsters in the area so she was safe. As soon as I sat I began bouncing on the cushion. For some unknown reason James decided to stay on the cold, unbreakable concrete. My mother stood next to me, only taller than me by a few inches. I contemplated making a joke about how small she was, like my father always did, but I figured I would wait for a better time to pull that joke out of my pocket. My mother then pulled me out of my thoughts by asking if James or I had any memories from the night before. James and I just stared at each other for a few seconds with blank expressions. I decided to remind my mother that James and I had been asleep until she had awoken us and brought us to this cold, white basement. I made sure to let her know that James and I had been well behaved and hadn’t broken anything like other times we had visited places. My mother sniffled and giggled at me; she then said that I didn’t need to worry, we weren’t getting in trouble.
