My Hero Journey

I was born almost 100 years ago to a family unlike me. Once my powers were discovered I was forced to leave home. In my natural state, I have dark blue skin, sleek vibrant red hair, and yellow glowing eyes. Most of my life I’ve lived taking on the shape and voice of others until one night in New York. I was looking for food when I met a boy named Charles Xavier. I can still remember bet that encounter like it was yesterday, from the other side of the kitchen I hear his quiet voice say, “who are you?”’, as he turned on the small kitchen light that was barely brighter than the dim light coming from the fridge. I was almost shocked that he could see past the physical form of his mother I put on. So, in a split second discussion, I changed back …show more content…
It was 1962 when we met MacTaggart and we're giving a purpose. We were joined with the CIA and for once in the century I've been alive, I was the hero instead of the villain. For the next decade, we searched for mutants making an institute were they could live and get to understand their abilities. From those hundreds, we choose six young mutants; Angel, Darwin, Azazel, Havok, Banshee, and Magneto to help us catch Shaw. He was a scientist during World War II and did experiments on mutant children until he turned himself into one. We trained them until they could control their powers and were ready to fight.
We headed out on an early afternoon out to the ocean to help the government with the Russian Missile Crisis. We knew Shaw was there working with the Russians planning an attack that wouldn't affect him but would everyone there if it was successful. For a couple fast minutes we sat there talking about our plan in the plane. Charles telling Banshee to, “Scream as hard as you can if you catch the right angle the waves should carry you”, with an uneasy look he prepared to jump out of the plane. Before he jumped out I shouted “ Good luck”, and he was descending towards the ocean. Next, we set up the other young mutants at their spots and hoped everything would go well. Banshee was stopping the Sumerians, Magneto was trying to move the big military ships, and Charles, Moira, and I were waiting.

The term “hero” has been around since the late fourteenth century; however, the term is of an uncertain origin (Etymology, paragraph 2). Based upon controversial etymology beliefs, Webster’s Dictionary defines a ‘hero’ as an individual that is admired for his or her great acts or fine qualities. According to Joseph Campbell, the author of The Hero with a Thousand Faces, an individual must go through the cycle of the hero 's journey. The life of a real life hero is reflected by the epic literary example “The Hero’s Journey” that is exhibited in the book The Hero with a Thousand Faces; therefore, a hero in today’s world must undergo the same twelve stages that are listed in “The Hero’s Journey.” The hero’s journey is known for telling…

King Arthur and Spiderman are two fictitious characters that are both similar, and dissimilar to each other. In an excerpt from Joseph Campbell’s The Hero with a Thousand Faces, he writes about monomyth, which is a twelve step process that is divided into four sections. This represents a continuous cycle that the character in the story must go through in order to complete their journey. King Arthur and Spiderman follow the cycle of the Heroes Journey by events in their lives made parallel to the cycle of the Heroes Journey. King Arthur and Spiderman, although from two different ends of the spectrum, are actually alike, both coming from epic tales of struggles and triumph.…

“Mankind has always feared what it doesn’t understand”(X-Men). One of the highest grossing film franchises of all time, the X-Men series is about mutants (humans that have mutated a fantastic ability) that the rest of society fears and hates. Some mutants want to live in peace and harmony with the humans, while others believe peace is an illusion and they should be ruling society with their abilities. This argument continues throughout the series, mimicking events like the holocaust, civil rights movement, gay rights movement, and women empowerment. The X-Men movie franchise is innovative when it comes to portraying women and other minorities as powerful with their complex and multidimensional storylines and not as tokens with minimal backstory.…
