My original goals were: know the schedule, review before exams, get faster, be more engaging, get organized, and be positive. From this, I divided my goals into two academic (know the schedule and review before exams), two work related (get faster and be more engaging), and finally, two personal goals (be more engaging and be positive). It seemed that the first thing that I would have to address before turning toward my goals would be my stubbornness and overall laziness. With my partners’ constant support and motivation, particularly towards the beginning and end of the project, I was able to …show more content…
Firstly, learning to navigate Blackboard was probably the single greatest thing that I learned. My high school, for example, did not use it, and so I have to learn the interface in order to monitor my grades and keep track of assignments and announcements given by my instructors. It’s been much more helpful in my college endeavors than I would have ever thought -- allowing me to move forward with my two academic goals with relative ease. Other resources that I used mainly consisted of other friends and co-workers that gave me tips and advice on how to

“I have to go here, dad. I just have to,” I told my father during our first tour of Colorado Mesa University’s campus. “I already feel like a Maverick,” I admitted as I straightened out my new CMU ball cap from the campus bookstore. It was a strange feeling knowing that I would no longer be Lakeland High School’s most spirited student, but there was excitement in knowing that I would soon show my pride for Colorado Mesa. Images of my blue and white spirit wear quickly changed to be maroon and gold.…

Upon my entry into English 1010-02, my first college writing class, I expected to breeze through the course with an easy-A and minimal effort after my successful completion of AP English 11 this past year. I began the year with the utmost confidence in my writing abilities, and believed that my skills were above par. It wasn’t until I received my score on the essay evaluation for my First-Week Essay- a measly five out of twenty- that I realized that this was not the case. At first, I was astonished that my seemingly exceptional writing skills had not earned me the A that I believed I deserved. However, as time went on I came to the realization that I had not put in nearly enough time or effort into the paper to receive more than a C at most.…

I first became interested in counseling when I was helping a friend with serious drug related problems and family problems seek help and counsel from advisors. Being just sixteen, I didn’t know how to help him efficiently and felt both powerless and helpless at trying to find adequate resources and services to help him deal with his problems. While I did eventually find counseling services and potential help for him, the effects of his psychological problems were so brutal that he committed suicide. This profound experience of losing a close friend to suicide forced me to develop a strong interest into understanding the role, guidance and motivations that leads people to such extremes. At this point, I had already cultivated the desire to…

I'm not going to do a whole bunch of research to demonstrate this well-known point, because I'm not getting paid at all right now so I really don't care. But I will use my own personal experience working at community colleges as an adjunct in Ohio. The three colleges I've worked at, one four-year university and two community colleges, pay anywhere between 425-500 a credit hour per semester. So, for one three credit hour course from Sept. - December, I'll make a total of $1500 before taxes for the semester.…

Before even entering high school, I made a decision that would ruin the next few years. Looking back, I had no idea it would have impacted me as much as it did, but even now I still wouldn’t have changed that decision. Everything that came after that decision, no matter how difficult, shaped me into who I am today, and I was able to meet some pretty amazing people and do a few things only a handful of people can say they’ve done. In elementary school, I was in the S.C.O.P.E. (Spotsylvania County Program of Enrichment) program, my county’s way of separating out students who they considered gifted and a distraction in the classroom.…
