Reflective Essay Of Winterpock Elementary School

When I was younger I loved writing. Poems, short stories, and nonfiction, I tried to write them all. From Romans to a galactic republic, my mind was a canvas of creativity until that day. The day of my social humiliation in front of all my peers, the day I thought I had written my best paper, the day I was changed. I was so amped to go to school that day, I rushed down stair grabbed my black and red backpack and ran for the bus stop. While I was running I heard my sister scream“Wait, Rocky, your paper!”. She caught up to me and handed me the paper, huffing and puffing, she said “ How could you forget the paper you worked so hard on, and who in the world runs to a bus stop on a snowy, february morning?”. That paper, three paragraphs, nine sentences, on a page of wide ruled paper and about the differences between the roman and greek civilizations, was my greatest achievement of my eight year old life. Winterpock Elementary School, then the newest school in the chesterfield area at the time, was where I was attending during the third grade. I rode the bus that day eager for my teacher to read my masterpiece and for me to …show more content…
I was ready for Mrs. Estrada’s class and to make her pay for her regicide, I redid the paper and made better and the exact opposite of her expectations with a twist. That day went back to and turned in my paper. “Long again.”, Mrs.estrada said. The class was silent, the air felt thick, and I looked unphased by her words. “Read it.”, I said, my peers looked at me like I was a dead man. She gave me a 80, and that 's when learned the truth, I wasn 't bad at writing, or even terrible at history, she had failed me on purpose. The first time she saw it she didn 't even care to read through it. That moment I realized that I couldn 't give up at the first time some fails, embarrass, or humiliates me, I just have to get up and keep

On Friday 10/9, English class was one to remember. Every day besides Wednesdays I have English class and it is defiantly a class to look forward too. My teachers are Mrs. Archabal and Mrs.Wheeler, two of the best teachers in the school that are credible. We call Mrs. Archabal “Arch” and we call Mrs. Wheeler “Wheels”, they don’t mind because mostly everyone at Thayer calls them by their nickname. So, on Friday, we had English class second period…

In her narrative “Proficiency,” Shannon Nichols assesses her transition from a passionate, inspired writer to an apathetic English student who almost did not pass her senior year standardized test in writing. The author, now a college, recounts the disappointment and frustration she experienced after months fretting over Ohio state’s Proficiency test, only to fail by half a point in writing, her strongest subject. Puzzled, Nichols wondered how all of her teachers and friends could love her writing, but the state graders could fail her without explanation. She brushed the test off this time, though, reasoning that she would improve here scored the next time; however, Nichols failed once again by half a point. At first, she was devastated – she…

Callie Parker had been studying in the library. Although she was all around a good student, she did struggle from time to time in her history courses. For some reason her mind refused to remember events, or at least the dates in which they happened. The test tomorrow had been looming over her shoulder all day, and as much as she would have loved to be curled up in her bed... she decided to do the responsible thing and actually study.…

I'd never been one to accept my failures and hardships, and my goal at the time had been perfection; an ambition that proved to be too large a wall to scale. Not having the ability to reach the grade levels I preferred, was, unfortunately, just what I needed to shove me back into the reality of…

I don’t know how I started writing in the first place. I still can’t quite believe I write. To this day, I look back to the past summer with a mix of wonder and disbelief, because venturing into writing has completely changed the trajectory of my life, when I signed up for my first writing workshop. I think luck might have been involved in this decision: truthless, ruthless luck. Somehow the planets were aligned the right way, and the right song was playing in my head, the wind was knocking right against the windowpanes, and I was right enough to click on the first weekly assigned reading and fall over, smack in love with the words of Ocean Vuong, or Terrance Hayes, or Toni Morrison.…

Anticipation and excitement clouds every persons face. Sometimes you see a flicker of annoyance mingled with that very special anxiety. This crowd of people that impatiently stand behind one another waits for something that they have waited for months to view. It doesn’t matter the weather, whether it’s on a dank steamy summers night, or a frostbitten morning some December, these people have come to get access to the latest story. Dozens or hundreds of people wait at the front of Movie Theaters, book stores, video game stores, or anywhere else these stories can be obtained, just to spend more and more money watching or reading or playing the new story.…

On the 1st day of AP English class all you heard was the clock barely ticking, sweat coming off of the teacher forehead and the students taking out paper and writing utensils to take notes on what we need. What stood out was Mrs. Fantroy’s strong voice along with the books that were shown for everyone to read that semester. The books looked like they could have come from out of ancient tombs or something. She had at least two lengthy looking books. She stated, “These are just some books for you guys to read just this semester.…

The unfortunate grade evoked a feeling of anger towards myself. I believed I had improved my writing skills tenfold since last semester, but I realized each comp teacher has a different grading style. My previous comp teacher, for example, still graded to fail students, but I began to pass my memoirs towards the end of the semester. I conceived of my ability…

My History As A Writer Throughout my lifetime I have come to love and absolutely hate writing. The reasoning of the assignment or topic has a lot to do with my affinity and disgust. Although learning new things, like writing, was something that I loved doing in elementary school, that all changed when it was daily implemented. As an art form I recently come to love writing down my thoughts, ideas, opinions and stories.…

A vast majority of high school students understand the concept of the importance of writing a paper to a specific audience but most don’t experience when a paper is read to the wrong audience. I experienced it first hand in my senior english class. It was my first paper of the year and I was writing it for a teacher that was very intimidating. Other students had told me that if you didn’t sit right, talk right, and have perfect grammar that she would tear me apart and fail me.…

My public school education experience began in 1976 and concluded in 1989. Between 1975 and the early spring of 1980 I attended school in a Maryland suburb of Washington, DC. The spring of 1980, my family moved to what was at that time a very rural Spotsylvania County, Virginia where I would complete my public education experience. My school experiences, including those involving STEM stand in stark contrast to the experiences I provide for my students.…

Prior to taking this class, I knew what diversity was but didn’t realize how much it significance it holds within children’s literature. Over the semester I’ve learned that it is important to represent different cultures without stereotyping in children’s literature. It is important to help children gain a variety of perspectives and see diverse characters being represented while reading and being read to. The textbook for the class states (pg 106) that the influential adults in a child’s life are the people who introduce children to various perspectives included in books. As someone that wants to work with children throughout my life post-college, I want to keep this in mind and try to enrich the diverse content of the books available to young readers.…

It's funny because I have those memories saved till today. Later, in high school I took a creative writing class I'm far from being a good writer, but I love how someone could tell their own story through their own words and make someone else feel what they are feeling or what they felt. I appreciate writing and I consider it a form of art for example music. I don't write music but I love listening to music and having a singer say a deep line or verse in a song and I am able to relate.…
