My Greatest Accomplishments

Improved Essays
I am a first generation American who will be the first in my family to graduate from college. This is not only about being distinguished as a college graduate of a prestigious university, but of a statement of perseverance and of love. This is an accomplishment that has yet to happen, but one that I’ve been working on despite the difficulties set before me. If anything, those trying times only solidified what kind of man I chose to become and what I truly valued when my options were fairly limited. This is something that I will make into a reality as way of reconciling the past and bringing forth the future. Graduation as an accomplishment is about the person I strive to be and how I can then become a net positive for my community.

As a current senior in high school, the time of graduation can be stressful and I am finally figuring out what I want to do with my life. The only reason I was able to do this was because of the great education I have gotten at CAL. I have learned more than just what textbooks and charts can show. I learned about life lessons and without them I do not know if I would be able to say I am academically and emotionally ready for college. During and after high school I experienced major accomplishments in my life. For example, I was not the best high school student I was sometimes tempted to do other things then just go to school I was not a fan of studying I would have rather played baseball in the afternoons, I decided that those choices where affecting me in the most tremendous ways I figured that I cannot stay behind and have the disinterest I had. Stop me from graduating and receiving my high school diploma, and so I started to take after school classes with my teachers to catch up, and substantial amount of studying at home. I became so focused in my studies I had no time for parties or any other activity as a matter of fact as soon as I got home…

Over the past 25 years the enrollment of first generation students has increased in universities and colleges around the United States. A higher education was a necessity for my self independence and to helped increase my ability to adapt to situations in times of struggle. As I grew-up in a family where my parents had to work extended work weeks in a dreadful environment, it became my dream to pursue higher education, so I don’t have to face the same struggles my parents went through on a daily basis. My parents are hard-working business owners, who deal with basic struggles on a day to day basis.…

Make Up Assignment Having lived in 4 continents and travelled to numerous others, I can safely say that from a very young age, I have spent a great deal of my life at the airport and on planes. I would always be thinking about how a plane at 3,500 feet of altitude with approximately an average weight of 877,000 lbs could manage to cruise with no worry. The curiosity was always present and just kept increasing. The four years I stayed in San Diego, CA my dad would religiously take me to the air shows there. Seeing all the different aircrafts would excite me as much as a child would if they were taken to Disneyland.…

Growing up, the idea of not graduating high school was never an option for me. For as far back as I can remember my mom saying, “You will graduate or die.” Of course she didn’t mean the last part, but because neither one of my parents finished school, it was important to them I did graduate. On June 13, 1982, wearing a sky blue graduation cap and gown I walked across the stage and received my diploma. It was a proud moment for my parents and myself.…

I sat in the pew kicking my little legs back and forth I listened to the preacher talking about forgiveness. I especially enjoyed listening to this part because I did not understand it. People would yell at my grandmother and say many horrible things about her, and she always forgave them. If that were me, I would have erased them from my memory. I watched as people stood up one by one to make it down to the front of the church to pray for forgiveness.…
