My Uncle James has two children, Darrius who is nineteen, and Elijah who is 4. I sit and talk to her and we talk about anything and everything. I tell her about school and different friendships. If things are going bad she tells me; “ Everything will get better and Melody I will pray that everything will be right for me. I sit and pray with helps me understand stories in the Bible. I believe because of my grandma and how much she has gone through health wise, I have become better and strong in my Christian faith.

I believe that this reminds me about the chapter titled Fully Alive. Donald is the one who had a strong faith. He says, “I’d tell them they need to- that God is real. And they need to find God and figure it out.” (Shriver

She is only a text, email, or phone call away when I need her. I know that she’ll always listen, because she always has. Through my parents’ divorce, through a day where I could have just run away from home and not looked back, and then even through the less serious, sometimes trivial matters, she was there for me. I asked her what her favorite part of being a small group leader is, and she replied, “Connecting with you guys, and just hearing your stories, you know? Being able to help you guys has also been pretty big.…

I’m Mexican, I was born in Mexico but then brought over here to the US when I was around 3 years old. My whole family was born in Mexico and I’m the youngest child which means that all of my brothers and sister grew up for most of their childhood in Mexico and my oldest sister even got married over there. We eventually all moved over here and that resulted in our family being very culturally connected with Mexico’s culture. My mother is a strong believer in continuing cultural traditions even if we are in a different place. So she made sure we always knew a lot about where we came from or special traditions that were done in Mexico.…

Eventually being with family was not enough to get her out her slump…

I spent many hours after school sitting in the sparsely active cafeteria, while she served the students with a smile on her face. My Grandma was a kind, selfless woman who would never let you go hungry. She instilled in me how important it is to take care of the people around you, so that when you are in need, they will take care of you. It’s cliche, I know, but the world truly did lose a great human being. After her passing, My Mimi, who is my father’s grandmother, took me in and supplied me everything I needed to succeed in life.…

Eulogy It never occurred to me that I would be up here so soon, talking about my Grandmother, Joyce White instead of celebrating her birthday with her and talking about the good old times when I was a little girl. I remembered my Grandmother as a beautiful lady with long black dark hair, rosy cheeks and red lips. She was not your typical grandma who baked cookies, stay in the house all day and knit sweaters, she was a woman who enjoyed life to its fullest. I used to remember when I was a little girl, I would love when my grandma comb my hair, she would plait my hair and when she is done, I would say to her, “Mama do not forget to fix my baby hair at the front with the brush,” she would smile and say “yes Kay, I did not forget.” She was a…
