My Grandma Research Paper

September 11th, 2001 was one of the most horrific attacks on the United States occurring in New York City. Lots of people can recall where they were at the time of the attack, because of how recent and horrible the incident was. Personally, I vaguely remember what I was doing during the time of the event, since I was only about 5 years old, but I do recall that I was at my friend’s house during the attacks. For this assignment, I chose to interview my grandma before our Thanksgiving dinner, because she has an interesting past when it comes to a certain “significant national movement.” In terms of 9/11, my grandma recalled that she was shopping when it happened. She was at Tuesday Morning walking around the store when someone asked her if she knew what was happening in New York. The woman gave her the brief information that she had on what was happening and following that, my grandma called my grandpa. She asked him what he knew about the situation and he basically told her what the woman had told her. At the time, he was working …show more content…
I have been told stories growing up about my grandma’s life while she was in London, but this one stands out. Growing up, she carried a gas mask in her backpack in case the sirens were to go off and bombs started dropping. I learned a lot more about my grandma’s past as well as how certain people act in certain situations. World War Two was another significant event, affecting the whole world, and my grandma witnessed it firsthand. I believe that the vocabulary I have learned thus far was beneficial to the conversation I had with my grandma. It has given me knowledge to be able to have a general understanding of sociology, how people react in social groups. It was very interesting to look at events that had such a negative effect on people, because people react differently in positive and negative social
