In the 1930s, Italy wanted to expand to territories it considered Italian. Benito Mussolini had used Adolf Hitler's pointers for his own benefit. If the invasion turned out to be a success, this would undoubtedly boost Italy's morale to conquer other countries in Africa, help them to recover from Italy's Great Depression, and avenge a defeat against then in 1896 which they considered to be a humiliating loss for Italians. On the first day of the war, Italy’s own Marshal Emilio De Bono walked into Ethiopia with 100,000 Italian soldiers and 25,000 Eritrean soldiers. On October 6, 1935, the camp of Adwa was captured which was very important for the Italians. It wasn’t a long victory party as they would’ve liked for because the next day, the League of Nations declared that Italy was the aggressor and would immediately impose sanctions that would hopefully slow down the rush of the invasion.
