My Grading Philosophy

My grading philosophy is, “yes, grades are important, but they do not define you”. I want my future student to know that that grades are important and that they should care, it is a snap shot whether they know a concept or not. This past semester, I have different view on how other feel about grades. One of the teachers I observed wanted her students to succeed and told her class that “learning checks” are not graded quizzes but a representation of what they know. They should not be upset on how any they got wrong, but for them to focus on ways that they can improve. While another teacher at the same school treated the learning checks as quizzes. I thought that it was interesting that teachers from the same school treated learning checks differently.

By reading his article you could tell Kohn is intelligent, gets straight to the point, and supports his claims with convincing evidence.
