The grade that I received for my Macroeconomics class, ECON 1402, taught by Professor Ardavan Mobasheri in Spring 2016, is not reflective of the effort I put into the class and is the result of various issues regarding how the class strayed from the syllabus. I wish to request a grade change for the overall class. After passing my Microeconomics class in the Fall, I had hoped that I would do well in my Macroeconomics class the following semester. I received an F for the class which means that if I cannot receive a better grade, I will have to take it again in the fall semester of 2016 as it is required for my double-major in International Relations and Modern Languages.
In terms of grading, we were graded based on four items: the midterm exam, the final exam, homework assignments, and class participation/attendance. However, there were many issues with every assignment. In general, our grades were never posted to Blackboard so we never knew exactly how well we were doing in the class and where we needed to improve. It says specifically “Classroom attendance is required. I will take attendance at each class. For the semester, you will have two unexcused absences; additional absences will directly and negatively affect your grade.” In fact, he only took attendance three times only due to “low attendance in freshman classes” and not because it is what is written on the syllabus. In an email he sent me with a breakdown of my grades, he said I received a 0 for class participation. In a response, I informed that I attended every class and despite not being the most vocal person in the class participated occasionally so I should at least receive some points, not a complete 0 as if I never showed up to
