FIT’s goals of academic and creative excellence, its innovation center, and its empowering student community would best nurture my skills and allow me to achieve my future goals in the fashion industry. I intend for my brand to become not only a staple in the fashion industry, but the quintessential byproduct of effort, determination, and a “can-do” attitude. In this way and more, I intend to transform the fashion industry, and much of this is conditioned by my commitment to philanthropy. I look fondly upon Blake Mycoskie, the founder of TOMS, whose “One for One Program” funnels proceeds to children in need with each purchase. This unique business model exemplifies caritas in action, and demonstrates a commitment to the community which extends far beyond self-interest.
FIT would allow me to experiment with my craft and open my eyes to the possibilities and the opportunities. This captures my intended aim: to develop my own global clothing brand, one with philanthropic work at its core. This desire dates back to my youth. I collected, revamped, and then sold old t-shirts on my driveway, and then donated the proceeds to my church for the impoverished. That experience taught me not only that I wanted to be a creator, but that my goals would ring hollow if I were not able to make a substantial difference in the lives of others. With the rigorous courses and motivation from FIT, I am confident that I would be able to take my innovation and create a change to empower individuals…
