Being videotaped was very beneficial since I saw my strengths and weaknesses while watching myself on the videotape. By knowing my strengths and weaknesses I could then create goals to improve as a teacher. I had the chance to even improve on the simple techniques and make them my strengths, like my placement in the classroom. However, my significant achievement was building the confidence in myself as a teacher. At my first practicum, I was nervous and uncomfortable to present certain activities in front of everyone. Eventually, I was able to be imaginative, silly, sing, and dance in front of the children and staff. I had multiple job experiences with children of different ages, however my favorite was teaching children with autism. About a year after I relocated to Washington I was offered a job as an Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Therapist, engaging with children of different ages that have autism. Being an Applied Behavior Analysis was challenging, but a rewarding experience at the same time. At first it was an immense change from having a job at a childcare center to now working at one-on-one sessions with children that have disabilities. I have to admit, even with all the training it was difficult at times, especially when just starting out with this type of job field. However, I still enjoyed every moment. Over time it became natural to me. I became fluent with the programs for each child. As time went on I improved at prompting the children when needed and assisting the child through transitions when they have refused to do a task or when they’re coming back from break. By communicating with my fellow employees and supervisors I expanded my comprehension about different techniques to use in certain programs. This incredible opportunity that opened my eyes to a new variety of career paths.
At this point in life I decided to continue my education to achieve a Bachelor Degree in Special Education. Not only to improve myself, but to become an accomplished educator for children with and without disabilities. By continuing
