Not only does St. Louis have a large population, it also has a variety of students from all over the world. As an educator in St. Louis, I will likely have at least one student who is new to our country and does not speak English. Consequently, student teaching at a school in St. Louis will allow me to gain experience working with these students while being supervised by an experienced educator, before I encounter students with these needs in my own classroom. Furthermore, St. Louis has a diverse racial and cultural population. While this “melting pot” is extremely beneficial for education, it has also been a source of unrest in our country in recent years. Therefore, I will need to be as prepared as possible to handle the tensions that will arise in my classroom and teach my students about different races, cultures, and economic backgrounds in a way that will help them gain a better understanding of other human beings. Schools must work together to nurture the best learning environment they possibly can for all students. Therefore, if I do not begin my teaching career in the school where I do my student teaching, I will still be able to take the connections I have made with me to my school. These connections will allow me to keep in contact with teachers from different schools in my area and together we can work to help the students in all of our schools succeed.
