Personal Statement: A Career As A Sports Counselor

One evening when I was about 11 years old, my parents came into the living room where I was watching television with my twin sister Chanell and they told us that they had something very important to talk to us about. Being so young I really did not think that it would be something too serious. My parents informed my sister and I that they would be separating and my dad was moving out and would no longer be living with us anymore. Instantly my world shattered, my dad is my best friend and my first immediate thought was I would not see him anymore. Arrangements were then made so that I would be able to see my dad every weekend. The first few weekends we tried to do various activities such as going to the beach and the park, but those things became boring. One Friday night he …show more content…
At that time I was not quite sure what field I was interested in. During my senior year in high school I was made aware that there was a major called “Sports Management”, and immediately became excited. Sports was and is something that I love, so why not mix work with what I love the most. Unfortunately, the university that I was going to attend did not have Sports Management in choices of majors. The college counselor informed me that ‘Business Management” would be a good start if I wanted to pursue Sports Management after undergrad. Based on the information I received from that counselor, I decided that I would find a program or university to major in Sports Management during my graduate career. As of this moment I am not one hundred percent sure about what career path I would like to go down when it comes to Sports Management. At first I was leaning more towards becoming a sports agent and working with athletes to manage their careers. The Sport Law class would be beneficial to that career choice.
