I think once you get pass all the minor obstacles at the beginning of a group then you can work on analyzing the problem, then setting the goal, identifying alternatives, and then evaluating the positive and negative characteristics of the issue/group. In this chapter it clearly explains in detail not only what these functions mean but ways to work through them. The chapter is also filled with many examples on each theory to give readers an idea on what to look for and how to really get to the core of each function. Introduction In the PetroCo Refinery Case Study, the budget coordinator is tasked with identifying potential budget cuts, among various refinery sites, to ensure the company remains competitive in the future. In order to allow each site manager the opportunity to argue their budget requirements and participate in budget cut solutions, the budget coordinator will hold a meeting to address the budget concerns. As a meeting planner, it is important to determine whether or not a meeting is the appropriate forum for communicating a specific message or addressing issues (Barrett, 2014). There are some communication skills I still need to improve such as internal listening, active listening, and removing barriers of preconceived notions. These again can’t be achieved by reading and learning. I need to keep in mind that things like barriers in listening and preconceived notions are present in every conversation and work hard to eliminate them. But what I am more concerned about than communication skills is my leadership skills, since this course focused mostly on improving communication skills.…

Interpersonal communication is the process of sending and receiving information between two or more people. It is a person-to-person contact, it includes everyday exchange that may be formal or informal and can take place anywhere by means of words, sounds, facial expression, gestures and postures. To take responsibility for your own feelings, rely on I language rather than you language. I language owns thoughts and feelings and does not blame them on others (Wood 125).…
