Educational Goals And Career Goals In Early Childhood Education

When people think of a good teacher they think of one that is nice, encouraging, trusting, and many other adjectives. Unlike most people, who change their mind on the career they want, I knew from the start that I wanted to be a teacher. I have many goals I hope to achieve when I am a teacher for example, making class a fun and exciting environment for the students and have them look forward to coming to class. I knew I wanted to be a teacher since I was young because I had a teacher that I had a close relationship with and made me love school. Most people change their career decisions multiple times before they actually pick a final job, but I never had an interest in anything other than being a teacher. I have always connected with younger kids over high school or middle school children, which is why I chose to major in Early Childhood Education. I believe that teachers have the ability not only change the world, but improve it. I want to become a teacher because seeing that light bulb go off and seeing the looks on the student’s faces when they get a problem is a great feeling. Many kids are ignored at home or even bullied at home and I want to make all those children feel wanted and to know that someone is there for them and truly does care about them. I want to be a role model to all the children in my class and look up to me. I want my students to be excited to learn and to look forward to coming to class. As an Early Education major, children that are young need a teacher to shape them into great people, future lawyers or doctors. For me, I am an experimentalist, experimentalism is the proper educational philosophy for me because I have the same beliefs and strategies. I think that it is important to try new things in teaching because every kid thinks and learns differently. As a teacher, you cannot be afraid to experiment and go out of your comfort zone with teaching strategies. There is going to be times when a teacher teaches a student something over and over again and they are just not getting it, this is when a teacher needs to try new teaching strategies and new ways for the student to learn the information. Teachers cannot get frustrated and give up on a student for not doing the work, they have to be able to make time for each student to find out the best ways that they learn. Experimentalist don’t believe in just teaching the curriculum, but teaching children things they will use later on in life. While things like math and history are important, it is also important that kids are taught how to do everyday tasks and things that will help them in their future. Experimentalist believe in a more involved classroom and not lectures where the students are just taking notes and listening. In order for the students to be full engaged in a classroom, they have to be involved and active in the lesson. I think it is better for the kids to be in groups moving around and being engaged
