I was a model student throughout my early years of school, achieving good grades and demonstrating a tremendous interest in learning; however, when I became the victim of bullying incidents in high school, my academic progress was stifled. After high school, I felt that I needed time to determine my direction in education and in life before entering college; therefore, I worked until I was 20, when I began my studies at Nassau Community College (NCC). Although I enjoyed returning to an academic environment, I was still searching for my calling, and the extensive student population made it extremely difficult to obtain guidance from advisors or faculty. My experience at NCC was terminated abruptly when I badly broke my leg and needed to withdraw from school for the medical attention I required. in Mt. Holyoke’s degree program which offers a comprehensive education is an essential step to my ultimate goals of obtaining a PhD and pursuing a career as a history professor. There are many Mt. Holyoke professors from whom I am eager to learn; I am particularly excited to take classes in Late Antique, Medieval and Church History with Professor Straw, Cultural Sociology and Sociological Research Methods with Professor Townsley and Medieval Literature with Professor Yu. Their expertise would contribute significant dimensions and depth to my education as a Medieval Studies major and Sociology minor.
