If one has yet to accomplish a goal, it does not mean they failed it, it means they have not yet complete it. When thinking about personal goals there are plenty that I think about on weekly basis. James Pasco, the executive director of the Fraternal Order of Police, explains how hard it is to be a policeman in today 's society: “Police officers literally have millions of contacts with citizens every day, and in the vast majority of those interactions, there is no claim of wrongdoing, but that’s not news” (Perez-Pena & Williams, 2015). Along with the scrutiny of the media, in high-risk scenarios the police need to make instantaneous decisions in order to keep situations under control. The use of video surveillance sometimes creates a misleading view towards officers “and it cannot really put the viewer in the shoes of an officer having to make split-second decisions under pressure” (2015). In a time where the relationship between officers and citizens is growing apart, each side needs to be as understanding as possible. An example of opposing the police force was seen in the article Uproar over Student Art on Use of Force by Police, where multiple students from Oxon Hill High School portrayed an officer treating citizens with violence.…

From a young age I have wanted to protect people even to the extent of giving my life. When people ask me why I want to join law enforcement, my response is, “I have had times in my life that I need someone to protect me, yet no one was there to do so, and I do not want anyone to have to go through what I had to.” I believe I would be successful because I have the drive and determination that is crucial to being successful in the field of law enforcement. I have also taken part in the Explorers Program; a program created for those who have interest on law enforcement but do not meet the age requirement to do so and are taught by law enforcement officers about the profession until they are of age to join law enforcement. The Explorers Program quickly separates fact from fiction, what you see on TV and actuality, by education young citizens about the judicial system and law enforcement and pushes individuals to see if law enforcement is their true passion.…

Yet we have this challenging issue in the law enforcement, especially where we want more diversity so they can represent their community. When I started to become interested into the realm of the criminal justice, I knew that police officers’ main objective in their job was to protect American citizens and their fundamental rights from possible harm. Yet, I did not comprehend that individuals’ roles as police officers was more well-rounded and diverse besides preventing crime. For the American police system, besides the educational and training standards that a police-in-training must endure, there are major responsibilities and roles that a police officer must take when on duty. The four main roles of police work follows the acronym LOIS: law enforcement, order maintenance, information gathering and service. Law enforcement basically consists of police officers detecting…
