From a young age, like the author, high expectations have been placed upon me, and vigorous measures were taken by my parents to ensure that the best education was available to me. Because I was expected to be a high functioning student, the vision my parents had of me allowed them to shape me into what they had envisioned. There comes a point where age and independence takes over my mind as I was less privy to the words of my parents. During this time, personal accountability is now the driving factor of success.…

When I was little, I wanted to be a chemist. I imagined myself in the lab coat and with goggles on, carefully pouring electric blue liquids and jade green foam back and forth into various containers, until something had exploded and I had discovered the best way to make flowers the size of people. As I grew up, I lost this fantasy, but I gained more knowledge on how I wanted to influence the world. Funnily enough, I discovered what I really wanted to do when I started working at Chick-fil-A during the summer before my sophomore year. Greetings, Class of 2023. Today, we get to celebrate the culmination of our thirteen years of hard work in school with graduation, and I have been asked to deliver this year’s commencement speech. I would like to thank all of the people that have brought us here: family members, teachers, principals, and people who would go out of their way to encourage us to keep trying hard even in the midst of failure.
