This elderly gentleman had been misdiagnosed twice before he was properly diagnosed with optic glioma, stricken with a tumor that consumed him with blindness. This not only bothered me because of the frustration he endured, but also inspired me to "try to be a rainbow in someone 's cloud" as the poet Maya Angelou stated. His positive outlook has opened my eyes to understand that individuals have to make the most out of life and make the most out of every situation. His optimism has been contagious and something that I will carry into the field of Family Medicine. I believe that Family Practice will offer me the assorted knowledge base to treat many different types of ailments. I want to go beyond the aspects of a typical medical visit; I want to treat the patient as a whole entity and develop a strong doctor-patient interaction. I find myself to be diverse, adventurous, and a dedicated hard worker. I want to be involved in a program that thrives on patient care and expands my medical knowledge.
