There is such a disconnect in the world between business and faith. While it is understandable, considering the myriad of belief systems that are prevalent today, there still exists a place for faith in the business world, even if it is only in the way I conduct myself. After all, our core beliefs determine our worldview which affects every decision we make, including business decisions. Because of this, it is important to me to learn how to build a bridge between the two as I prepare to re-enter the workplace. My goal at Colorado Christian University is to build on my prior learning and work experience to obtain the greatest education possible in my chosen field while also integrating my faith and strengthening my written communication skills.
Before I had the opportunity to become a stay-at-home mom, I gained a considerable amount of work experience in bookkeeping while also beginning my pursuit of a degree in accounting. Unfortunately, I was unable to finish my degree at that time, but I’m thrilled to take advantage of the opportunity I have now to continue my studies at Colorado Christian

Between the Biblical perspective offered by the university and my own research of Scripture that correlates with lesson content, I hope to strengthen my understanding of all the ways the Bible is clearly applicable to every area of my life. In doing this, I hope to bridge the gap that sometimes exists in my mind between secular business thinking and my Christian worldview. Also, through conversations between classmates and professors, I aspire to become more comfortable speaking about my faith. The world has taught me to be cautious about what I say in regards to my faith, but the Bible tells me to “[speak] as one who speaks the very words of God” 1 Peter 4:11 (New International

Most Christians have at times experienced a “crisis of faith” due to new contrasting ideals that may provoke questions (Carroll, 409). Entering college for the first time is a vulnerable time for anyone who has been brought up all their life to think and believe as they are told. College freshman, Alfred Corn, was experiencing this unfortunate crisis. (Carroll, 409) The knowledge we individually obtain throughout our livelihood constantly evolves and adapts to new information and experiences, unfortunately learning too much at times makes us question our current standing beliefs.…

Introduction Religious organizations, especially on college campuses, can sometimes be viewed by the public as intimidating due to the rules and stereotypes associated with religious groups. Journey, a Christian worshiping community at the College of Charleston, encourages an open-minded approach to spiritual growth throughout college by communicating with students in a way that welcomes all types of students without judgment. This organization is a discourse community, a group of people that share common goals and communicate about a particular topic, at the College of Charleston. To determine this, I compared Journey to the discourse community discussed by John Swales in his academic article. In his piece, Swales explains that to be a true…

“Teaching faith to assist the “salvation” process is a lofty ideal for schools”; this is one of the main statements of Teaching Faith in the Twenty First Century: Pointers for Christian Schools, by its author Barry Hill (pg. 18). In this article, Hill attempts firstly to describe faith itself by unraveling the etymology and historic definitions of the word faith. The definitions that the author uses are referrals from several 20-century writers, as well as from seven different languages at distinct historical timespans. Based on the most common definitions of faith, Hill constructs and displays nine different aspects of faith and later what he calls the six “faces of faith in schools” (pg. 21).…

The theological integration of faith and learning is one of the essential elements to the educational theory and practice of a Christian Higher Education institution. A discussion of these essential elements helps to set the backdrop for an explanation of my approach to the integration of faith and teaching, learning, and research in regards to Christian Higher Education, especially to Christian Ministry and Leadership discipline. I believe that the elements that are essential to the educational theory and practice of a Christian university are the development of students’ Christian worldview in which Christ-centered education is systematically rooted, the theological integration of faith and learning, and the preparation of students’ vocation…

While attending university, many Christians derail from their faith because of the temptations they face. Alcohol, drugs, and new philosophies surround them within their college campuses.…

My past laid out upon a table. My GPA, my resume, my test scores. An unfamiliar man whom I met for the first time was frowning, turning around in his creaky red chair, while hurriedly trying to contextualize my life with just a few pieces of paper. For 15 minutes, he sat there, unhappy, tapping his foot, analyzing what I’ve “done” with my life. He took a sip of water and suggested that I go to community college.…

My spiritual journey of faith has turned me into more of a “mutt” than a “purebred” Christian because of the variety of denominations and international churches that I have experienced so far in my life. For starters, I grew up in a “every Sunday” church family. In fact, I was at church the very next Sunday after being born. My first church was part of the Assemblies of God. However, a few years later my parents divorced and we ended up at a non-denomination church, where I spent the next 20 years.…
