A wish is something that you want that is impossible or near impossible to attain, for example, wishing for a billion dollars, a mansion, or a trip to Mars. A goal is something that you aim for that is attainable or can be made attainable, such as setting a goal to publish a book, become a teacher, or to learn a language. The difference between a wish and a goal is that a wish is a desire that would come true without the effort and hard work you would do to achieve a goal. The two aspects I value most in life are relationships and kindness. I value relationships because my relationships with my friends and family are crucial to my happiness. They act as support and a source of humor and fun in my life, as well as people I can comfortably confide in and ask for advice. One of my goals within the ‘This Year’ time frame is to maintain and improve relationships with people such as my friends and family because they made me who I am today. Some of my goals include other people, my community, and my school; a few are more focused on the “greater good” and the betterment of things extending beyond my self-interest. I would advise to those who are struggling to deal with setbacks to take a break, whether it be 1 hour to a few days, to push that disappointment from their mind for a while. After doing something enjoyable, they should go back and review the situation with a clear mind, where they can analyse the setback and accept it. From then, they can move forward with their lives with the added learned knowledge gained from that experience. I strongly believe that calming yourself down with a break, such as doing something therapeutic or an activity you love, will help you be in the right mindset to proceed forward after a
