My Genogram Reflection

My genogram changed the way I look at my overall view of my health by making me realize I’m at higher risk of certain conditions than others.The genogram made me realize that I am at a higher risk for certain conditions than others. For instance, I am twice as likely to have alcoholism and high blood pressure than the average person. This shows me I should be very cautious of what I consume every day. By obtaining this information I am determined to change the risk factor for my children in the future and their health that can be inherited from me.

My mother is already a health conscious person. Health conscience in a sense of watching her diet, taking the time out of her day to watch the carbohydrates & calories that she consumes every day, and she also takes the time out of her day to make sure she incorporates some sort of exercise in her routine. In complete contrast to my mother, is my father, who drinks an awful lot of beer, does not workout, or even watch his diet. In watching these two things I am constantly reminding my mom to keep up her diet and staying active, whereas my father, I have to encourage him to watch his diet, get active and also staying away from alcohol or beer. I felt at a disadvantage because these were health decisions that I did not make that I have to now be watchful for.I believe I am a very health conscious person, but there are now decisions and health choices I have to make for the mistakes of others. Though all of the above is opposing, I believe I have all the proper tools to maintain a healthier me. I know how to read the nutrition facts on a product, as well as knowing how much a person can consume a day which is 1,000 calories a day. Also, food servings should be the size of your fist.
