Classroom Observation: My General Reflection And Impressions

Decent Essays
1. My General Reflections and Impressions
This was my last observation. In comparison to all my other observations this was my favorite. This was the age range that I would like to be with and the teacher that I was observing was fantastic. Most teachers that I observe change their curriculum to something they feel will meet my needs or whatever the case may be. However, this teacher did what she does naturally in her classroom.
2. What I Observed and Learned
As the bell rang for class to begin students began filing through the door. As they did they placed there backpack in the back corner of the room, which was actually where the door was. Then the students went to their seats, which were placed on the desk, and they moved them to the floor.

When the teacher asked the students which writing exercise they wanted to do many of them didn’t want to do either and instead came up with another one. Writing is a subject that many students dislike. If they are able to come up with something that the vast majority would like to do, then it becomes something they have more interest in and will do. There will be times when there is no agreement upon anything so the teacher has to make the call. But, if the teacher listens to the students it makes the process, for any subject matter, something the students enjoy and are excited about. For instance, they were constructing a flower and the students couldn’t wait to start making …show more content…
Topics That I would Include in Future Lesson Plans that Would Be Relevant to Teaching English Language Learners
During my time observing I heard many students sounding out the words that they wished to write. This idea is important for students learning to write but can also be used from English Learners as well. This is a great method to learn how to pronounce, read, and write words.
5. Effective Instructional Practices That I Observed for Teaching English Language Learners
Illustrations and words can help teach English Language Learners. With the assistance of pictures they can make the connection of what the word is. For instance, the students had to identify the apart of the flower on a picture. Then they were to label these parts. The students were able to make the connection of what the word was and where it applies to the plant.
6. Questions and/or Concerns That I have about this Field Experience
How did you know you wanted to teach first grade?
If you had another option what grade would you

I loved the way Mr. Hossack conducted this particular lesson because of the way the students took responsibility for their own learning! The way he guided them through a complex process was brilliant. Desired Results-- learning objectives: Mr. Hossack not only posted the class objectives on the board, he discussed them with the class and made sure they understood the vocabulary used in the objective as well as what learning outcome to expect. The students were clearly accustomed to discussing the objectives before beginning the activities. Assessment Evidence Mr. Hossack used both formal and informal methods of assessment.…

While observing in Beth Johnston’s First Grade classroom at Eugene Field Elementary School, I have noticed some effective and ineffective classroom management practices that she uses while I have been in the classroom. One effective classroom management technique that I have observed is that Mrs. Johnston puts her student’s desks into groups of three or four. This is an effective technique because she puts her strong students with her not as strong students, which can help with the students who might need a little help staying on track with the lesson that they are supposed to get done. Also, Mrs. Johnston has changed the groups a couple of times since I have been observing in the classroom. This I believe is effective because the students…

When students can relate and visualize what is happening in the class or in the text they are reading, they are more likely to be engaged and understand the material. The teacher candidate believes that Mr. Smith should have taught a few of these words prior to the students reading the book. “Some teachable words are introduced before the first read-aloud. These are words whose meaning are crucial to the overall understanding of the story” (Honig, 2013 p.…

In the past month, I have been traveling to Williams Middle School in Florence, South Carolina to observe a dance educator and Coker alumni, Ashley Lesage. After the opportunity of observing twice, there were a few things I agreed with and did not agree with as far as the students and teaching methods. September 15, 2016 was my first time observing in Ms. Lesage’s classroom. One of the first things I noticed amongst the students were their clothing attire. In a dance studio, usually an observer would see leotards, tights, leggings, t-shirt, and a tanktop.…

I can empathize with teachers who say that the observation and evaluation process does not seem reciprocal in nature. Most of my follow-up evaluations have either been waived or conducted in five minutes or less in which the principal hits upon the highlights of my observation. Very few teaching lessons have been learned through these interactions. In her article though, Shelly Arneson includes sound practices that can be implemented to alleviate many of the concerns of the evaluation process. Her basic premise is to shift the dialogue from inspection-based conversation to a reflection-based conversation.…

Through the course of my practical, I was given a Grade two class to observe and I unquestionably discovered a recently developed love for that age group. I was always adamant from the first time I knew I wanted to become a teacher that I wanted to teach Grade one’s, but my thoughts have definitely evolved.
