Starting a new sport half way through your high school education is hard, But starting a “guy” sport is even harder. If I were a freshman doing wrestling I would have quit about two to three weeks in. But since I started my junior/senior year i finished the whole season. The reaction during my freshman year would have been totally different then when I started my junior / senior year. If I were to start my freshman year I would have not finished the whole season, due to the teasing and “bullying”. For example some of the guys would try to match with me even knowing that they were stronger, knew more moves, and where on varsity. They have also been doing wrestling since they were about seven or eight years old, and it was my first year doing

"Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty and persistence" I have had many ups and downs over the course of my life thus far. One specific example of this took place during my freshman year of high school. When I started high school it was very challenging for me, partially due to the fact that; during this time, I was lazy, unmotivated and did not really take school seriously. This by far is one of my biggest regrets to this day. Who would ever think that not trying during my freshman year would continue to follow me throughout the course of my academic career.…

I started wrestling for the Smithville Youth Wrestling Club. At the time I was in the fifth grade and I was 12 years old. At first I hated the idea of wrestling because of the tight singlet you had to wear, and also the idea of people making fun of you because of “rolling around with other guys”. Plus to make thing worse a lot of the other kids there have already wrestled since they were 5 which gave them more experience. I remember coming home from practice and just hating wrestling because it was hard work…

After joining back it helped me in school a little bit but also set me back in some ways a lot as well. In high school my most outstanding example of a time when I set an example as a student leader was my sophomore year in high school. My sophomore year of high school I was brought up to the varsity soccer team, the team that I was on was not extremely hard working and or dedicated. As a sophomore I was afraid to stand up and verbally tell the entire team that we need to step it up, or we are going to have a horrible season, so I decided to make my statement apparent by my actions. First, I started by always being the first one to every practice, putting pressure on my other teammates to do the same, in result everyone started to arrive to practice earlier. The second step I took was difficult since I was one of the youngest players and the…

What makes college and high school wrestling similar is the scoring system. When you get a takedown it's two points and is a key move in wrestling. It involves off-balancing your opponent and taking a shot to get around their hips and score two points. Most the time directly after the person who scored the takedown their opponent on bottom usually gets the escape for one point which means after that they get back onto their feet and into neutral or starting position. Sometimes it takes more than one takedown before you can get a nearfall, pin, or escape.…

The day of August 27, 2012 I was officially titled a freshman. One look down those unknown red and blue walls, will forever change my perspective of high school. There was an instant moment of disbelief in my freshman, I was terrified, and no thought came to mind as to how I was going to survive high school for the next four years. Of course I knew it'll be different from my tiny middle school, but will it be like the cliché movies about the upcoming of age, or resemble the happiest times of life. From that first day, I knew I wasn’t like everyone else.…

In the Spring of last year, it was my Junior year, one of the most critical years in high school. It’s the year that colleges look at the most, also it was the year that I was in some of the most challenging classes. Mostly honors, a lot of homework, and tests to go along with it. Studying would take me until late at night, and even on weekends, all day long. When it’s the end of the term everyone checks their grades for their report cards, and progress reports.…

Similar to all high school sports the wrestling team had a junior varsity team and a varsity team. Of course the varsity team is the better team and the team everyone wanted to be on, but it was not easy to get on it. To get on the varsity team from the junior varsity team, you had to challenge the person on varsity at the weight class you wanted. Challenging someone means you wrestle that person like if it was a real match. The winner got the varsity spot the loser went down to the junior varsity spot.…
