My Freedom Of History

I grew up in the Eastern Europe in a country called Estonia. When I was born, Estonia was a part of communist Russia called USSR. This regime had strict rules, closed borders and no one was allowed to travel outside the USSR. Also, we did not have any religious freedom or freedom of speech. Despite the political situation in my homeland, my childhood was very happy and peaceful. My parents were able to provide me and my sister everything what we needed. Even though there were many limitations and obstacles my parents needed to overcome, despite their long hours of work, our family time was always joyous and memorable. I learned from my parents that there are many ways to make one’s life more fulfilling even if there are little money and opportunities …show more content…
My first trip was in Sweden with my mother and niece. Right then I discovered that I love to travel and find out about other cultures and countries. After that I and three of my best friends took a trip to Europe. We went by a bus and visited many European Countries: Latvia, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Poland, Austria, Italy and Greece. We were riding condoles in Venice and climbed the hills in San Marino, visited Vatican City, saw the Pantheon in Athens, Greece and tried to climb the Colosseum ruins in Rome, until we were stopped by the guards, because that was not allowed. During that two week trip we covered a lot of land and visited many different countries and learned lot about other cultures. A few years later I was able to go to work in Egypt and during that year I also visited Israel. I even met my husband during the trip to Finland and decided to move to the United States.
Growing up in the communist regime has shaped me the person I am today. I still do not want to trust any governments. Since we did not have freedom of speech growing up I am still not used to speak my mind and rather be quiet than speak my truth. I have traveled many countries and plan to travel many more. I have learned that I do not like having limits set by a government or anyone

For 10 years I was unable to travel outside the United Staes. However, the opportunity to travel with other DACA (Deferral Action for Childhood Arrival) students to Mexico City was open to me, during this one week out I was allowed to join the Mexican government conferences on how to help youth. This educational experience led me to realize that there are many individuals that are interested in traveling and learning other cultures, the links that are formed when one travels with other are completely different than those we form with only a few hours of interactions.…

History is just a compilation of several compelling stories of the past put together. I love that I am able to learn intriguing and true stories about places, people, and events that I have never seen physically or experienced personally. History is very interactive and requires creative and attentive thinking to connect why and how occurrences took place the way they did. For instance, I did not fully understand why the Americans revolutionized against the British until I viewed their struggle from the perspective of an oppressed and unfairly treated individual whose voice was not being heard.…

From the moment that I became fully conscious of responsibility, adulthood almost seemed to spring itself upon me. Even though as a child I felt that my father, the only apparent guaranteed source of love, only expressed never ending frustration and disappointment.…
