Personal Experience: My Experience As A PACE Leader

Improved Essays
1. During my first year, PACE has challenged me to be the best I can be in many different ways. Professionalism is something that I’ve been able to further develop by learning how to dress appropriately in whatever type of situation may present itself. Although I’ve always been very timely, I’ve been challenged to not only be on time for everything, but to be early and prepared for any situation that might arise. Academically, PACE has challenged me to hold myself to a higher standard in my work and class time, and to strive for an A in each of my classes. I’ve always been a very independent person, but college has taught me that it’s okay to ask others for help. Character, I’ve always thought, is one of my strong suits. always striving to …show more content…
I am very personable, relatable, and driven. I hope to be able to inspire students through these traits. I enjoy giving advice to others and helping others with their problems. Being a PACE leader gives me the opportunity to do both in an academic setting and a mentor/mentee setting. I know when I first moved into the residence hall, I had a little trouble adjusting to the college lifestyle and I hope to be able to help incoming students with any issues of that nature that arise during their first year along with their FastTrack projects. In the past, I’ve hosted Elementary School Leadership Conferences for my school’s SAFE for Southwest club. I, along with a group of five other students, founded this drug prevention club my senior year, because it was something that my team and I were extremely passionate about. I was responsible for recruiting and retaining membership throughout the year and the club grew from five to twenty members in just one year. I was in charge of planning and running the events and activities for the kids at these events. The goals of these conferences were to inspire kids going into junior high to get involved with clubs and sports, because involved kids tend to stay out of trouble and away from drugs & alcohol. We talked on the variety of clubs and sports the junior high offered and told stories of what we were involved with while doing fun activities to engage students. Through involvement with SAFE, I was challenged to be personable and …show more content…
Two things that I need to work on are my presentation skills and fear of letting others down. Though I don’t have trouble speaking casually in front of a small group, I get extremely nervous when giving a formal presentation in front of a crowd. I have challenged myself throughout the year to better my presenting skills through various class presentations and by joining Lindner Ambassadors, which gives presentations to high school students and markets the Lindner College of Business. By allowing me to speak often in front of students, I will gain great practice for presenting in front of larger groups, which will challenge me to become a better businesswoman. Through being a PACE leader, I will learn to better present myself which is an important aspect in the business world. I take great pride in helping others and when I can’t help, even if it’s something that’s totally out of my control, I am disappointed in myself. This is something that I’m trying to learn to cope with by analyzing the situation and realizing when it’s not my fault that I can’t help or do something for someone else. This position will challenge me in this aspect by forcing me to ask others for help with any questions or concerns that I have with my assigned Learning Community to help me perform to the best of my

The peer leading program is undeniably one of the most selective programs at Masco in order to have a solid group of students who are hardworking and committed to improving and keeping up the spirits of our school, and I know I would fit right into this group. I really enjoyed the way Mr.Delani described the program as a way to keep our enormous student body as a close-knit community. Peer leaders do a lot of good in the school by providing underclassmen with a role model whom they can reach out to with questions or concerns about navigating through their first year of highschool. Being that person for a group of freshmen would mean a lot to me because I want to help them reach their full potential in high school. I know, from experience, how…

We are all just a plain paper bag. The same paper bag we take to excursions in kindergarten and the same ones we toss away in the trash bin, as our minds ripen. Whether it is breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner: inside lays food of ambrosial or acrid quality. Until you actually look inside of the bag, you never take into consideration what is inside. Like how everyone values one's integrity and exquisite talents, we may never actually know until you cautiously open another plain paper bag to unveil its contents.…

Facilitation was something that I had considered from the very moment I heard that I was able to apply. Honors Colloquium is such an interesting a unique course and I desperately wanted to give my experience to the incoming Honors freshman. However, leading up to being accepted as a Facilitator, and even after I was excepted I was nervous. Nervous, about being able to achieve the role of a Facilitator and nervous of performing the role well enough that my student excelled and became proficient in the tasks placed in front of them. Luckily though, to my advantage, we had a weekly breakout as well where I could express my concerns and grow throughout the year, slowly but surely developing into a leader.…

One begins to understand how cruel life can be, but there is a limit where you get tired of everything that happens and we decide to face our own problems. When we stop depending on someone to solve our problems we start being independent. Its okay to receive guidance or advice from friends or family, but don’t expect them to be there every time you’re in a difficult situation. Being independent has helped me so much during these years in high school. Teachers are…

At first glance, this role may not seem to have a big impact, but my experience has proven otherwise. Soon after I got hired, a patient called down to order her dinner and did not realize she had been given a renal diet order. While this may not seem like a big hurdle, this patient was already dealing with a great deal of stress due to her hospitalization. She was craving mashed potatoes, a comfort food to help her feel a little more at home.…

Introduction Today, individuals have yet to realize the large impact mental, physical, and sexual health can have on their overall quality of life. I have witnessed this first hand, as my father suffered from depression for most of my teenage years. I saw him neglect to confront his issue, eventually causing him to lose all motivation to keep up with his physical health as well. Through this, I learned that a lot of individuals are not completely comfortable admitting they are struggling with their mental health, which I believe is due to the stigma society has created regarding mental health conditions. For this reason, I decided to join CCPL to work to reduce society’s negative stigma surrounding mental health as a whole.…

always found myself eager for the next lesson. Throughout elementary school I had four different French teachers, which meant that nearly every year we would be forced to start over with a new teacher who didn’t know where we had left off the previous year. In fifth grade, the French teacher was a multilingual woman who inspired my desire to learn multiple languages fluently. Her proficiency inspired me to take Latin in middle school, both to continue to have Mrs. Vitt as a teacher and to use as a gateway to learning the other romance languages. At that time I also memorized the Greek alphabet and learned lines of Homer’s Odyssey in Greek.…
