During my first year of college, I took a step outside of my comfort zone by deciding to serve with Jumpstart. I figured it was an excellent way to serve the community, while also getting to know my peers. Little did I know that it would be one of the best decisions I made in my academic career. Serving with Jumpstart provided me with the tools and knowledge to become a better humanitarian, scholar, critical thinker, and person in general. I chose Jumpstart, out of the plethora of programs run by the Simmons College Scott Ross Center, because I truly admire its purpose, and how the curriculum has been proven to help young children develop the essential skills they need to be ready for kindergarten and schooling beyond that. Jumpstart members play an important role in the organization because they aim to help children achieve and successfully learn. Children, communities, and even Jumpstart members benefit from this program - it surely guarantees a great experience while helping others. Ultimately, I am proud to have been part of an organization that works very hard to show that learning to read and write at an appropriate age sets the stage for an individual 's academic career. Being a part of Jumpstart taught me so much about how to effectively work in a team of peers, and how to compose myself around young children.
