Learning through Writing As my first year of college comes to an end I can see how much I have improved throughout the year, especially in my writing. Throughout this year I have seen how my writing go from struggling on the start of it, to being able to start off quickly using different methods to finish a full, well written paper. I can see the difference this first year has made with all the techniques I’ve learned. These new techniques I have learned throughout 5A and 5B have become really useful when it comes to my writing. Although, I do struggle still at some points, such as writing my thesis and making it clear. I know that if I keep practicing throughout the years it will keep improving. The writing strategies that I exceled in were Entering a conversation, synthesizing and triple entry journals. I have also improved thanks to the workshops we do during classes. And hopefully all these strategies continue to help throughout more of my college career. The first method I have mentioned was entering the conversation. Entering the conversation is when a reader starts to read something and can easily be informed of what’s going on. For example, it’s as if a person walks into a conversation that is already going on and they …show more content…
When it comes to writing a paper about a certain text and use quotes and other valuable information from the reading, a TEJ is what to use. What a TEJ is, t’s basically a three column chart that has however many rows (depends on how many sections your text is broken into), and it is labeled at the top, summary, quote and response. In the summary part, it’s pretty simple you just summarize what the author is trying to say in your own words, and how you interpret it. Writing has always been one of the most difficult skills that I have been learning through my college career, but it has also been the most important skill because unlike other skills writing affects my works across all courses or subjects. Writing has also helped me to get in to UMD, receive scholarships, and be accepted in research programs. Therefore, all the effort that I have made to improve my writing skill is worth it. From experience, writing is not like other skills that one can learn overnight, for me, writing skill is very slow progress and requires a lot of writing and reading; this is what I got from this class. In this class, my writing has advanced because I am reading more, practicing more, and writing more.…

Adequate writing was always a struggle for me because I struggled with coming up with topics to write about. Even when teachers gave us prompts to write about I struggled writing about them mostly because I thought writing was boring. Another reason I was discouraged by writing was I would spend hours at a time trying to come up with ideas for a prompt and would barely come up with any ideas to write about. Being a civil engineering major I see why writing is so important in my career field. My experience with writing has had its good moments and its bad moments.…

My mind feels like a 1000 piece puzzle missing a piece. I can’t simply find the right words to say to start this paper. It is always like this when freewriting; the idea of freewriting in and of itself frightens me. Never able to put the words in my head onto paper in a way that it can be read eloquently by others. My hands start to cramp automatically at the idea of freewriting.…

My experiences with writing have been somewhat limited until I signed up for English 101. I have to admit that English was not my favorite subject in school. I never felt like I was any good at writing, and spelling is still not my strong suit. I always felt like I was better at math. My attitude towards writing was my biggest hindrance to my success.…

Writing has been my talent since grade school; I couldn’t sing, or dance but I could write, or so I thought. Then, I entered high school and realized that writing required a lot more than it did in middle school. The brisk pace and advanced comprehension skills required for my English three AP course caused my grades to suffer. I have struggled with college level essay writing tremendously, but through hard-work I have been able to write with more ease and finesse than ever before.…

One-One-One-One For The Road For an American born and raised student, English, Literature, and Writing are commonplace in both primary and secondary school curriculums. Yet, for myself specifically, these curriculums were not the construct of any institution, instead, for a majority of my life, my education took place in my home, as a homeschooled student. And, because of this arrangement, I possessed an undiagnosed disability in writing until late in my secondary school career at a private institution. With the assistance of dedication and providence, however, my final year of secondary school was accompanied by a rapid growth in my textual composition.…

My Road to Reading and Writing As Mark Twain said, “The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who cannot read”. Many people today don’t take up reading or writing as a hobby. A lot of people would not even read a book for entertainment or to expand their knowledge and the most they write is a post on social media. In my opinion, most people know how to read but chose not to because they are uninterested or unwilling which causes them no to be as proficient in writing.…

At the beginning of this school year, my approach to writing was, in a sense, incorrect, but I thought that the way I wrote my papers was completely fine. I wasn’t overly excited about taking English 102 this semester and often felt overwhelmed by the writing assignments. As a writer, I find it very difficult to express my thoughts and feelings on paper. However, over the last several months, I can see how the progress in my writing style has changed. With the knowledge of research and analyzing, the overall structure of arranging details and facts within my assignments have developed throughout this course. I believe using evidence to create specific ideas, and my own personal interest in fantasy football, has been the elements that’s helped the most in changing my ability to write more effectively.…

To be completely honest I have mixed feelings about writing and I don’t really have any memorable experiences that made me feel this way, it is just the experiences that I have had with the subject while trying to apply it. I struggle with what to write down mostly and creativity in general and I don’t really excel at any part of it. If I were to say I “excel” at anything it would be revising my work and adding to it. At the end of the semester I hope that I have relearned some key writing elements that lack of practice has caused me to lose.…

I was not an excellent writer at the beginning of the school year, but I can gladly say now that I have inherited more writing skills that I will benefit from in the future. One of those skills is being able to reflect on every angle on my topic to allow me to organize my ideas accurately. This skill is beneficial to learn, for it helped with my report essay to acquire the focus of my paper more clearly. Moreover, this skill helped me write papers in my other classes more easily and efficiently. Likewise, my voice can be read strongly throughout the personal narrative essay, because the passion I had for my topic was an emotional one.…
