My Journey In The Industry

Next month I will celebrate16 years at NextGen. My journey in the industry has been unconventional, unpredictable and electrifying. I began my career by answering the phone for a small IT recruiting firm. I was 19 years old, clueless about what I was doing, yet hungry for more. After putting in some time doing administrative work, I approached the management team and asked them to take a risk on me and allow me to begin recruiting. It took some persuading, but from the time they said yes, I took the opportunity and ran with it. I was fortunate that the risk paid off and turned into a career I loved. I virtually grew up in the industry and became a student of business in the real world. Three years later in the year 2000, I began working for the best company and people anyone could ask for. I still work there, I’m happy to say, and remain excited and energized by what each day at the office provides. …show more content…
Hiring trends, economics, legal issues, benefits, healthcare and current events are just a few elements that influence the business each year. Add to this mercurial composite, lightning speed advances in technology, and a day in the life of a recruiter, a consultant, a hiring manager just got more complicated.
At the end of each year I reflect on our firm’s past challenges and successes and try to forecast what the coming year will hold. As I prepared for my 2016 leadership meeting, the following concepts emerged as potential obstacles and opportunities;
• Employees and job seekers are becoming much more selective about taking a position and more demanding in regard to salary requirements as unemployment remains
