Enn 101 Reflection

My first semester at Washburn has been better than I thought it would be. During this semester I have learned multiple things in your class EN 101. I have learned many different forms of citing, properly finding and using credible sources, different techniques of writing, proofreading your peer’s papers and many interesting things about pop culture. Through the class exercises that we did in class and writing these different papers over the semester I have been able to learn these skills. When writing a paper it is like a puzzle. You have many small pieces that you need to put together and make a big picture like your intended audience, purpose of the essay, organization, proper use of grammar, citing the sources and many other things. This class helped me put those pieces together to make a paper that would show my writing styles and my thoughts. Also it helped me grow as a writer and reader. Although I learned all this abilities to be a better writer but my writing still needs improvement in abilities like using proper grammar, coming up with a thesis and organizing my thoughts so the reader can follow through the paper easily. …show more content…
In high school we usually wrote compare and contrast or an essay with one of the books that we read during the class but we never tried different styles of writing. I was able to achieve that goal through this class because we learned many different types of writing styles like persuasive essay, research paper, vignettes, small responses towards an article, letter to the editor and reflection essay. All of this were very interesting styles of writing your thought and opinions towards something. Not only the writing styles, we also learned couple different styles for citing our sources. One of them was using MLA format and the other one was bibliography which we used while we were citing our sources for research paper over the

In the Spring of 2016 when I took WRTG 101, I terrified of failing. Before taking WRTG 101, I would always struggle with writing. This class has taught me many important and essential techniques to be successful in my writing career. Considering that Spanish is my first language, reading and writing are a weakness of mine. I have always been afraid of attending an English class for the simple fact of having to write essays.…

Anna-Lise, Paven, Rebecca, Christina, and Colton - I appreciate your thoughtful post addressing the key points of the intersectionality paradigm and the long responses that followed. I see the incredible value of this paradigm that addresses the relationships of health disparities in the scope of the dominant culture, wherever the dominant culture is, speaking globally. I especially appreciated the point made by Pavan regarding the role of the NP which I would like to expand to the role of the DNP. Pavan states, “as NPs we consider the influence of the patient’s social determinants of health, environment, biophysical, and psychological factors as equal counterparts to maintaining health and well-being. Further she mentioned Van Herk, Smith,…

Have You Developed a System of Writing That Works Most of The Time I really have not looked up different styles of writing let alone realized there was so many different types of it. My method is not necessarily a method per se, I have always for the longest time just wrote down as if I was speaking to someone. That to me was where my biggest praise came from, that I was able to write with such voice and was able to emulate my presence through the pages. When writing for an essay there is a period where I read and reread the question to gather all the information that is needed. Once the question is fully understood, I try to explain myself in full detail.…

This course has helped me figure a lot of my strengths as a writer. I learned that I have good ideas and can be a good writer when a topic interest me. I have also learned that my grades usually reflect on how well I followed the criteria of an assignment. I realize that I have unique points of views on certain topics and often like to give my own thoughts and explanations about a topic. I also know how to be straight to the point with whatever message I try to convey.…

This semester, I have learned a lot from this English 101 course. I have not only learned from you, but also from my peers and myself. Entering this class, I had a good understanding of what this course was about because I took a pre-English class over the summer. Although I feel it provided me with a decent grasp of the course, the material of pre-English was condensed into six weeks, so there was still a lot left to learn. English 101 was very beneficial because it helped strengthen my writing as it also gave me an introduction to college writing.…

One of the most important lessons was that I needed to stay on top of my work otherwise it would take a while to catch up. In college, classes and papers will fly by faster than in this class, so I feel lucky to have the opportunity to feel the college paper writing experience. I also this this class taught me to work hard and never give anything less than 100 percent. I feel this way because with every paper I had to prove my skills and writing techniques in order to get a good grade. Taking this class has helped me improve my skills and techniques as a writer, and I look forward to the challenges that lie ahead in Composition…

Over the past three months, class ENC1101 has taught me some major lessons in English writing. My expectation coming into this class was to become a better writer, at least in my eyes. The different writing assignments were helpful to me using research and asking questions when I was stuck. My progression has included me writing essays, MLA format as well as discussing classmate’s papers, and becoming open to others criticisms about my work. Most importantly I have learned how important English is.…

When I first started ENGL 1101, I expected it to be like high school all over again. In high school I was always in the more advance classes. English composition was never my strong nor favorite because of my knowledge of the grammar and organization in my writing. Taking English 101 is a jump start for me, because last year of high school my teacher focused primarily on English literature. The course has introduced me to rhetorical analysis, and swatching (imitating author argument). Throughout the semester and all of the papers written I can say that it was a good experience to write at a college level and the expectation from college professors is good for future courses that involve writing essays.…

I have also learned that the spelling and grammar check is your best friend while writing a paper. Not only have I learned how to improve the content of my papers but I have also learned how to lengthen my papers. Before this class I could barely write a page, but now I go beyond that. I have never understood the purpose in writing essays before but because of this class I do. Over the course of this semester…

Learning different modes of writing and putting them into practice will allow me to be able to approach different subjects with an appropriate style. Although I had learned to use only academically credible sources before, I had become too lax and this class put me back on the right track of being aware. I have only done papers in APA format for the past two years, so this class was a nice refresher on MLA format. I think it’s important to be fluent in both; while in college you never know if different teachers will require a different format than others. Beyond improving my writing ability, this class achieved its critical thinking development goal as well.…

Throughout this semester of English 101, writing has become more of a skill than a struggle. Writing was a challenge that I dreaded when I chose to be in the course, nonetheless with time, I learned from my mistakes and was able to improve. This course made me very doubtful on whether I could be capable of even writing a paper that would provide me with a decent grade, but at the same time made me push myself in my writing technique. In the end, I can reflect that I learned from my mistakes and wrote papers that took time and dedication to accomplish. I learned from this class to be confident in my writing and make all the mistakes to receive the grade I want in the end.…
