My Career At Penn State

I graduated high school in 2014 with a 4.0 GPA, was in the top ten percent of my class, and was accepted to Pennsylvania State University. Everything had gone right for me, and I was excited to begin my college career. The only problem was, I did not know what I wanted to major in, let alone what I wanted to be in my life. I chose Penn State because they had a great program for students who were undecided. My hope was that I would suddenly have an epiphany and realize what career I wanted to pursue, and decide what my major should be. I learned that this is not how life works. My first semester at Penn State was enjoyable. All of my classes were towards my General Studies, so I received my first taste on what college would be like. I made some friends, was a participant in mindfulness research, and had gotten a 3.48 GPA; however, by the end of the semester, I felt that I was still no closer to that moment of clarity, that sudden realization that I knew what I wanted to be; however, I did know that I always enjoyed computers. I enjoyed learning the basics of programming, which gave me insight on how a computer operates. I performed well in this class, but at the same time, I was taking a physics class, a calculus course, and other general studies courses. This was really my first rigorous semester, and I was struggling with physics and calculus. I did not seek guidance, whether it be from by professors or my peers. I decided to drop my physics class and take it the next semester, and focus on my other classes. By the end of the semester, I had performed well, but I still did not know what I wanted to do. I had to choose a major that I wanted to pursue, and meet its requirements by the end of my second year. Ultimately, I chose to attempt the computer science major, since I knew that I enjoyed computers and I received a good grade for my programming
