My First School High School

Improved Essays
So the first school I looked into was a Riverview Junior High School, this school is part of the Murray School District. The website for this school was very basic, which I think is much better than having too many things that can overwhelm people with too much information. It is a clean look and makes it easy for parents who are looking to find out information. One thing that I really liked that I found was that the school offers what’s called plus time. Plus time is a 25 minute block of time built into the class schedule four times per week. The time is used to provide supplemental instruction to students that need additional help, time for homework completion, and opportunities to participate in enrichment activities. Also everything is broken down to the lunch times and bell times. This way the parent knows exact time, also there is a calendar, which shows everything that is going on at the school. On the welcome page, they have a news of the school as well. This way the parents are involved already, because they know about the schools activities. One of the most crucial components in the foundation of a parent- teacher and parent and the school partnership is communication, and the ability to communicate freely (Gestwicki, 155). Overall, I think a very informative website, but for more information the parents do have to go and meet in person, which I think is always the best option. The second school I looked at was West Jordan Middle School and one of the first things I liked that they had a student, a picture of the student and it said “Freshmen of the Week”. I think that is so great that they have that so show off their students and how well they are doing. Think of how proud the parents are of that child. On the welcoming page right away they had those frequently asked questions, such as what is for lunch, the calendar, programs for their child to succeed and get extra help was all on this page. Which I think is helpful for the parents that have their child already going there, and the parents of future students. Their website even afford information in Spanish for those who English is not their first language. I also found a mission statement, which I did not see on the Riverview’s page. Having that on their page, will help the parents know and feel comfortable with that school, because they will know what the school is all about. I think this kind of goes with the Code of Ethics which describes the first ideal as to develop relationship of mutual trust with families we serve (Gestwicki, 152). This just show the parents that the school as a whole is serious about their child education, and they have something to show for it. For the final school I research Joel P. Jensen Middle School and right away I liked the look of the website that they had put together. First impressions are very important, and I had the impression that it was a very clean, put together school. As I looked around the website, I found that they had what is called eFlyers. So instead of printing out the flyers they put them

It has been shown that schools with year round education have higher annual attendance rates in comparison to schools with a typical schedule (DeNisco, “Year-round schooling gains popularity.”). This leads to better continuity with learning and will result in minimal education gaps. For Beecher Community School District, switching to a balanced calendar meant not just higher, but doubled reading and writing scores for standardized testing in grades third to sixth (DeNisco, “Year-round schooling gains popularity.”). Standardized testing can help us determine an average skill level for a school district or even an entire state, allowing for us to have the ability to grant funding for where it will be put to best use. Having year round schooling would also award us the ability of getting the most out of our education.…

The semester before my freshman year I applied to an early college high school; I knew that I was going to have more work than if I had went to the traditional high school, but I knew I could do it. At first I was doing well, but as time went on the work became more challenging and frequent eventually my grades fell and took my pride with it. I wanted to transfer to the traditional high school in my neighborhood, but changed my mind after a talk with one of my professors. She helped me to recognize that if I quit not only would I be throwing away the work that I did do, but I’d also be preventing myself from seeing what work I could do. I took that seed of information and turned it into a tree of motivation.…
