Personal Narrative: My First Real Interview

My first real interview was in high school, and it’s also the most unforgettable interview I’ve ever had. My AP language art told me about this summer camp, and how they pay you to be a counselor for the entire summer, so my friends and I decided to apply. The director of the camp called us, and we all put our interview slots for Sunday at different times, so we can all drive to the Camp together. When Sunday finally came, I was nervous. This was the first time I was going to be interview for a job, and I was even more nervous because of the fact that it was a job that I really wanted. When he called my name to be interviewed I was still nervous, but while walking to the room to be interviewed him was making jokes and making me laugh. By the time we reach the interview room I was once again at ease, even though there was a second interviewer already in the room. Both interviewed sat in front of me, but I did not mind it because they were really friendly and genuinely. They begin by telling me about the camp, and what they do year round at the camp. Next, they asked me some general question about myself, and how I heard about the camp. The male director would make jokes from times to times, which I thought worked for me during the interview because I was smiling and laughing a lot. I thought it was important to show them if I was going to be one of their camp counselor, I knew how to relax and have fun. The most effective method the interviewers used was when they asked me what my response would be to several scenarios involving the kids. That gave me the chance to show them my skills, and what I had to offer as a counselor. I like how the interviewers gave me enough time to collect my thoughts and talked about how I would solve the scenarios they gave me.
