Freshman year, after moving from sunny Texas to the numbingly arctic Michigan, I became a little depressed. I used my homesickness for Texas to write my first poem, “Cold”, a piece on everything I missed about my old home. Writing became a natural outlet for all the complex emotions I felt, most beyond what I could comprehended at the time. At the suggestion of a friend, I started publishing my poems on my own blog. The topics varied from school stress relationship problems, to my dreams for the future. Now, at one year later, my blog has over 4,000 followers some pieces of writing receiving thousands of shares.
