My First Official In Class Speech

Improved Essays
I will be writing my report based on the professors notes as well as my peer notes since the video-recording system is not cooperating with me. As this was my first official in class speech, it was not only very nerve racking but also very enlightening, especially now as I am able to reflect analytically.
Preparation:
In order to prepare for my speech I attended the speech lab for some help as well as some tips. I decided to do a speech on my mother and I chose those reasons to speak on her, as they were the most prevalent to me. I practiced at least twice a day (for 10 minutes) at home in front of a mirror as well as in front of some friends for practice, as well as looked for their feedback. The delivery for my speech was Informational

I think it was effective in grabbing attention since I noticed many peoples faced perked up upon hearing me quote him. I also created my credibility when I made it clear to the audience that I have known my mother for many years. I wouldn’t change anything, as it was for me to test some waters (such as beginning with a quote) and to get my feet wet, over all I would say it was successful.
Content:
In terms of content, I wanted to highlight on instances on my mothers life that have entertained me and I hope in turn entertained others as well. This not only includes the funniest times in our lives but as well as some of the darkest as well. If I had to redo the speech again, I would change the third point (my mother’s independence). I felt for the previous points I used actual experiences while the third was more of a description really of her independence rather than any solid examples. In then end, I know I did very well with my first speech and I know that I can still improve in the future. This self-evaluation has been a review of my first speech on what I value, focusing on preparation, verbal delivery, nonverbal delivery, introduction, and

After presenting and completing my visual informative speech, there were several strengths and weaknesses present throughout my speech. Some of my strengths, with respect to the content of the speech as I did my visual presentation, was that I did a good job with the introduction. The introduction involved introducing my topic and grabbing the attention of my audience. Also, I had great supporting materials and most importantly great organization of my main points. As for the delivery aspect of my speech, according to the video, I had a good posture and used my flash cards very well, which were very helpful in delivering my speech.…

I was recently invited to attend the Toastmasters meeting in Millington, Tennessee, however I was not entirely sure what to expect. I was, to say the least, surprised at how informal and socially casual the club is. In contrast with a TED talk’s audience, there is no harsh buzzer or overbearing timer to stare at while giving your presentation, the meeting was in fact, very relaxed and only focused on self-improvement. It was a place to hear others and be heard yourself, to give honest feedback, to improve the art of the conversation, and to master the art of public speaking.…

This informative speech could have been improved with more body movement during the transitions and a good eye contact with the…

Final Persuasive Speech Reflection Believe me when I say that my progress from then to now has come a long way. Initially after giving the persuasive speech, I felt that there has been little process in all of this time that I had spent trying to learn to communicate more effectively. Worst of all perhaps, I felt powerless to do anything to change this. This was my most practiced speech and it did not feel that way. Even the thought of having to go back and essentially relive those 7 minutes was not something I was particularly excited about.…
