My First Mission Trip

This past summer, summer 2016, I had the chance to go on my first mission trip. I am a firm believer of Christ, I just never had the motive to go into the missionary field until this year. When the second week of summer came around on Saturday, July 11, I jumped on a charter bus leaving out of First Baptist Church with their youth and choir groups in the small town of Blairsville, Georgia and rode all the way to Arlington, Texas with a few gas stops on the way. Prior to leaving, each of us were given a binder filled with guts of lessons that were broken down into days one through four, and we had about two weeks of training: spanish training, how to work with the kids, what our objective was with the kids, etc. We also split into three different …show more content…
The organization who we were working with was called Mission Arlington. Their goal is to bring church into the homes in which people cannot physically make it to church or simply for those who feel inferior to church. The ladies who was in charge of this organization, gave all the different groups two different apartment complexes to go to starting that Sunday night until that Thursday: one for the morning starting at 10:30 and one for the afternoon starting at both being an hour and a half. Rainbow Express was what we were there for to share with the kids which basically was like a summer bible camp. We would go around knocking on hundreds of apartment doors thirty minutes before Rainbow Express started and say something like “Rainbow Express! 10:30 by the pool!” As soon as children started to arrive, we would start off playing a game with them to make them feel comfortable and to interact with them. Next, we would start off with large group; in that, we would sing the three or four songs set for that day and share the Bible verse, Jeremiah 29:11, that was rewarded with a treat if memorized. After that, we would go into small group where the scripture for that day was shared. Lastly, we would do a craft that would go with the shared scripture from that day, give them snacks, and answer any unsure thoughts. This was the same

In 1794, Macartney proposed the famous “Macartney Mission”, and was rejected by Qianlong Emperor. It is because that China had totally different understanding of its diplomatic status from what the Macartney thought, and China was self-sufficient and thus not willing to expand import. However, some claimed that it was China’s “isolation” that resulted in the rejection. From my perspective, the idea that China was “isolated” was not totally correct. Instead, the East Asian was actively involved in trading, embraced scientific ideas, and accepted different culture.…

It was the first day of our medical mission trip. The 13 of us were divided into four group: triage, clinic, pharmacy, and faith. Colin, Laure, and I sat in plastic white lawn chairs, facing the locals who sat on three wooden benches. We had prepared a short, spiritual lesson to bring Jesus’ love to the rural cities of the Dominican Republic. When I welcomed them in their native language, their faces softened.…

For our civic engagement project for the Redefining Leadership class, my group, Stephanie, Hailee, Christina, and I, decided to volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House in New Haven, Connecticut on a Thursday. Before we got there, we did not know what to expect, but afterwards, we truly felt grateful that we helped out a great cause. The Ronald McDonald House is a charity house that keeps families close to their family members that are being treated at a nearby hospital. We spoke with someone who works at the House and she told us that eight families were there on that day. We were able to see some people and did what we could to help out.…

All throughout my childhood, missionaries were invited to stay at my home, where my father would offer them food and a place to rest (Troutt). I learned many things from these missionaries as well, as I was homeschooled and was rarely away from my house and the wealth of positive influences that dwelled in it. Just as I enjoyed observing the behaviors of my father and the missionaries, I also had a strong passion for…

Since the summer of 2015, we have visited an amazing group of educators, ministers, and everyday volunteers who work to bring refugees out of poverty and integrate them into the American lifestyle through faith. While I was there, I got to reach out to kids ages 2-17 years old that came from a variety of different countries. From Sunday night till Saturday morning, our team slept, taught, and ate in a small, three-bedroom apartment in a Burmese neighborhood.…
