Reflection On Clarity And Calling By Doug Koskela

My earliest memory is one of a happy and peaceful family, I am grateful every day that we have continued to be the same family. That memory involved my brother, mother, my dog Hoosier and I, in a playset eating lunch together. What I remember most about that day is getting Hoosier into the playset, pushing him up the slide and how much fun that was to see him up there. However, it is the way I remember this memory that has got me thinking. When I remember this, it is always from a helicopter perspective, I am looking at my family from a different angle than when I was there. I had never truly thought about this until we began to read Clarity and Calling by Doug Koskela, this book got me thinking about how much I have grown since then and the …show more content…
While my parents have taught me the stories of the bible since before I could talk and walk I only began to understand the concept when I was about six. Even today there are parts of our understanding of God I do not understand such as the Trinity which from the talks we have had in class I don’t think I ever could truly wrap my mind around it, due to the complexity of the idea and my limited understanding. But when I was about six the stories I heard about Jesus began to sink in and with the help of my parents I came to understand more and more about God and Jesus. My brother was going through this understanding about the same time I was and when I was seven we decided to get baptized as a family. That baptism marked the time for my family where my siblings and I gave our lives to Christ. I will never regret this choice and from that day I have strived to improve my relationship with the …show more content…
From me and my brother’s relationship with Eric and Ryan our best friends at the time my mother got the idea to homeschool us. This was the best decision she could have made for our education. She dedicated so much work to our education in the form of programs and courses she prepared us to do work by ourselves. The curriculum put us ahead of what other kids were learning and taught us to be self-reliant. Being homeschooled allowed my mom to work in the message of the bible into our curriculum and teach us more about the Lord. I know homeschooling us was one of the harder decisions my mom made and I know she made the right one as it prepared my siblings and I to do so much more with our

A place that I hold dear is a little town on the panhandle of Florida in an area known as The Forgotten Coast called Mexico Beach. I have gone there every summer, staying for at least a week, since I was four years old. It is a place of tradition for my family because my mother vacationed there for the first time when she was four years old, too. I have come to love this place, not because it’s some epic fantasy vacation, but more because of what it represents to me. Mexico Beach is a place where each summer, for more than half of my life, I have spent every waking moment enjoying real quality family time.…

I was introduced to the Baptist religion when I was in kindergarten. A group of people from my town’s Baptist church came to my house immediately after September 11, 2001. They chose to come to our house because they felt moved to preach the good news to my mother who was a firefighter at the time. Their ultimate goal was to spread the good news to our whole family. After they left my house, my mom came into my bedroom to tell me what she had just learned.…

Becoming an adult is a momentous occasion in any young person’s life, but often it is marked by pain and hardships that push us as individuals to earn our autonomy and personal voice. There was an event in my life which pushed me to stand up to my parents and ultimately become an individual in their eyes. Life as a homeschooler was somewhat isolated until the end of my eighth-grade year. It was a damaging environment because of the constant interaction with my mother who was extremely critical and often lost her temper. The feeling that I could never please her overwhelmed me and even when I went to public school her manipulation of myself and others climaxed.…

It’s very strange how one experience or choice you make in your life can change the rest of your life that follows that event, would you then in turn change these decisions you made. Such as your what if your mom conceived you not on the knowing basis. What if everyone was telling her not to because she was to be a single mom and that’s not a world a child should be born into, but then what if she challenged this belief that she grew up with. This then in turn affected all her choices later in life, but then vice versa what if she didn't challenge this belief and stuck with what she knew. This may be of the more extreme choices in life that some people must make but we all have that certain time in our life that comes where we must break away and make…

Growing up, I was taught at all different kinds of schools and places. The first school I was taught at was a private faith-centered school, called Saint Matthews Catholic School. Saint Matthews was an elementary school that went up to the 6th grade. In Saint Matthews, the majority of students were “white,” Hispanic, upper middle class, high class, and (not surprisingly) Catholic. Although I loved going to Saint Matthews, I could not deny that it was a very segregated place.…

I was introduced to my Messiah, Jesus Christ on April 10,1977 at Prairie Creek Baptist Church in Plano, Texas. The key text for the sermon that Sunday morning was from Revelation 3:20, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” In a picture in my mind I could see Jesus with His arms open wide, inviting me to be His child. As the congregation sang the hymn, “Just as I am”, I walked down the aisle and prayed with the pastor to accept Jesus and to make Him Lord of my life. I was water baptized the following Sunday. From the moment I asked Jesus to be my Lord, our friendship began.…

Homeschooling, also known as home education, involves the education of children at home instead of receiving education at a traditional private or public school. According to Bauman (2011), many students are schooled at home and the number in the United States is growing at 15 to 20 percent per year. It is a system in which parents prefer their children to be educated at home and argue that it is more beneficial for them. There are those who advocate homeschooling, while there are some skeptics about homeschooling as well. Homeschooling is becoming very popular and many see it as being a bad idea due to the fact that teachers in traditional schools are better qualified due to years of training, the child’s socialization skills will be negatively…
