My Family Experiences

My first memories of realizing that my family was a part of Christianity was when I was around five or six years old. At the time my family was stationed in El Paso after my dad came back from being overseas. The church that my family attended was the church of God and Christ. We used to attend church every Sunday. The Church of God and Christ is where southerners say all of the “holy-rollers” attended or the very religious attended. My parents were not really holy-rollers themselves but we attended this church because my dad wanted my family attend because he always attended church as a child while he was growing up in Mississippi. He wanted my mother, sister, and I to be exposed to Christianity as well especially my mom because growing up she did not really attend church.
Furthermore, my family lived in Texas for about three to four years. I do not remember a whole lot about attending church back other than we went. For instance, there are some profound memories that I remember about attending. The first memory is of my dad getting baptized. I did not understand at the

My mom, grandmother, and uncle all lived on welfare when my mother was a child. My grandmother was a single mother and she tried to raise my mom the best that she could (I don’t know much about my uncle), but she they both do have their shortcomings. Some of the behaviors that my mom and grandmother have exhibited are: they do not know how to cook or like to cook, my grandmother tries to encourage living on welfare and she always talks about it proudly, my grandmother always gets into arguments with everyone and she has alienated everyone on my mom’s side of the family and my family and I are the only people she knows who are willing to accept her phone calls, and there is just a long list of problems that have stemmed from my grandmother that I cannot

It was a whole new church that my family was just attending while we were passing through the area, in all honesty I probably only attended five churches in my life prior, due to the fact that my family travelled so vigorously. This being said I wasn’t very holy I just kinda went because due to my age I ended up playing games most the time, never really having to be preached too. This church was contrastive than the prior experiences I was exposed to because I had to go to the main service area with my mother and father. To be blunt this was my first formal introduction to “my lord.” It began with singing, which I even had to endure at the children's ministry, but then came the hour and a half of my first meeting with who this man people always talked about really was.…

We didn’t really attend church due to my parents “belonging” to only one church and that was located two states away. Every Sunday as a young child, we would have “song and prayer. " This is where we would go to my father’s parents’ house and sing religious songs and discuss life struggles. The girls had to wear dresses, while the males wore dress pants and a nice shirt. I know many would think of it as a strange event, but I found it more relaxing and beneficially then going to an actual church.…
