My First Job

In 1997 my two kids and I moved into an apartment. A two bedroom that was subsidized housing (based on income). My son was 7 and my daughter was 7 months old. Their dad refused to have anything to do with them because I chose to live for the Lord and not live in sin. I had to make up my mind, and raise them on my own. I had two jobs at the time. My first job was in childcare, and my second job was in the evening, at a grocery store. February 2005, I was able to purchase a new truck and finally, I was able to buy the kids nice things and take them places without worrying about the bills not getting paid. August 2005 I was in an car accident, losing my truck and shortly thereafter, I lost my job. I did not understand. What had I done wrong? Why did the Lord allow this to happen? Immediately I knew what needed to be done. Either I had to find a very good paying job or two. It took a while, but I found another job in childcare. October 2006, changed my life forever. One night as I lay in bed, a commercial came on about breast cancer awareness. The lady proceeds to explain how important it is to be able to give yourself a breast test. As I venture into my field placement, I have no reluctance to serve in any settings and/or with any population. I have learned through my 24 years in the human services field to expect the unexpected and be prepared for anything. I take things that are unfamiliar to me as an opportunity to learn and experience something new. At this time there are no personal issues that would impact my choice for a practicum site, and I have no previous, existing, or continuing health/medical conditions or other issues that would impact my placement. I have chosen the social work profession as my career choice because I have spent over half of my life serving others in a variety of positions.…
