It was a three day field placement that happened throughout the term. They were spaced out which was one at the beginning of the term then one towards the middle of the term and the last day of the school garden project was at the end of the term. Having the small amount of time at Briggs Middle School felt like I was welcomed there. The staff were very nice and fun to work with. SK did a good job leading Bryan, Kaitlyn and I. The first day at the school we introduced ourselves to the students. When the groups came to me I had them taste the plants. I explained to the students what the plants were and I had them decide whether they wanted to go ahead and try the plants or not. A couple of the kids weren’t sure about having to try the plants out because they weren’t sure if they were going to like it but some of the first couple students that were brave enough did try it and they said that they liked it. After that happened their decision to try the plants influenced the other students who weren’t sure about eating them at first to go ahead and try them out after a little bit of trust was gained. Some of the students thought the plants were good and others thought that other plants weren’t so good. I got to try a couple of the plants and I had the same experience with the different plants. The students favorite plant was the cilantro. A lot of them were talking about how they like their tacos with cilantro. That made them want to eat more. After a while I had to tell the 8th graders that they had to slow down on their eating because the next class of 8th graders were going to have to do the same thing. In the reading of Ripe for Change has a good example of how students are still able to learn about what having the school gardens do to benefit
