I realized that reading books didn’t make me seem like a loser. In fact, everyone thought I was extremely smart. During seventh grade, my school held a reading competition called “Strive for 25.” Students were expected to read twenty-five books over a period of time and take a test on each. In order to get an award and a picture in the newspaper, the student must’ve passed all the tests with an average of eighty percent or higher. At first I second guessed myself and didn’t think I would be able to do it, but my mom told me otherwise. She not only encouraged me to read, but she also took the time out to read those books with me. My mom sparked my interest and passion for reading all over
