By the age of six, I was extremely excited to start attending kindergarten. My oldest cousin Cameron was already in second grade, and had come home every day for the last two years telling me how amazing school was. He loved it so much, that we would play, “school,” and he would teach me things he learned in school that day. I had already been to pre-school, and pre-k, where I learned to read small flip books, and fell in love with my teachers who seemed to know everything. Perhaps, reading from such a young age is how I developed my love for knowledge. By my first day of kindergarten, my reading level suggested I was in third grade, even though I was only six. (this was definitely something I was going to brag about on the playground) In-fact, my youngest memory from my elementary schooling, goes back to my first kindergarten classroom. I loved my teacher, Miss. Daphorne, she was a tall woman, with a kind voice. Her classroom intrigued me; it had the alphabet strung across the top of the classroom walls on boarder stickers, and a lot of “really cool,” books. She even suggested to my mom that I should be tested for the gifted and talented program. I was a “star student,” until we began to write.
“Can you write the alphabet on the board for us,

My tutor, Mr. Sanchez, would make me “read, write, then repeat.” He explained to me, that it was okay for me to become frustrated with reading, and writing, because it was not always going to come easy, or even make sense. However, it was not okay to give up on something before I even started. Looking back, I think that, that moment has, “encapsulated,” and defined me as a reader, writer, and an overall student. Throughout tutoring, I learned that, “in order to write better, you must first read better.” With the help of Mr. Sanchez, I was able to become a stronger reader, and change my writing habits for the better over the course of

“Write to be understood, speak to be heard, read to grow”, as once said by Lawrence Clark Powell, is something that I have grown to understand and believe in through my day- to- day experience in everything that I do. In today’s world, where technology is evolving, reading and writing are essential towards acquiring any job or skills, I begin to look back at my life and appreciate the time and effort my parents put into making my education a success, and it couldn’t have been so without reading, writing and grasping every little concept. The Journey wasn’t always easy, there were days when the road was smooth and the sky was clear but, there were also days when the road was rough and the storm was raging. I can remember vividly when I…

All my life, I never truly appreciated reading, writing of what is was, for I’ve always hated reading and writing. I could never see as of why it’s so important to read or write by virtue of me believing either it’s boring or a huge waste of time. My parents and teachers would always encourage me, but I could never really get into it. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always been a good reader and writer; I just didn’t like to do it. For an example, back in second grade I was reading at a fifth grade level.…

Needless to say that, while I was excited, I was a little scared of Kindergarten. My teacher, Mrs. Jarman, definitely had her hands full with my class, we were a rowdy bunch. I don’t remember much of kindergarten, but I remember the first day of school. We technically lived outside the school district, and mom didn’t want me to go to Marion City schools, so I was open enrolled to River Valley, and every morning, Mom would take me to school. Usually, she couldn’t pick me up, so my grandma usually did.…

Professionalism is the competence expected and presented by a professional, and among teachers it is important to exhibit professionalism in their careers. Presenting oneself as a professional is important as it will affect their career. A teacher not presenting themselves as a professional can result in students not showing respect towards them, their colleagues not taking them seriously, parents being concerned with their child’s learning, and the certainty of putting a career at risk. Teachers must know how to present themselves with different groups of people, and fully know the roles they must take with these different types of groups. They should present themselves as nurturing yet firm with their students while keeping their boundaries…

Literacy Narrative I view myself as an average writer and reader for my age. The guidance and support from others is what I believe supports my literacy the most. This consists of my parents pushing me to do my best by encouraging me to read and write better by their support and guidance through assignments and doing other forms of literacy for entertainment. I never always viewed myself as an average writer and reader for my age, I actually thought my literacy was quiet mediocre. It has been just recently that I feel I have become an average write and reader.…

In my earliest moments of middle school writing was one of my favorite activities to do because I could let go of emotions on paper. Writing was fun but it can also be boring at the same time because it depends what you can write about. When I got into high school writing was a week point. Even though I was not a great writer, I still have some negative and positive experiences that shape my writing today. Ever since I left my old school, writing has clicked for me and has created many new opportunities for me to succeed.…

When I was young I was never the best at reading even though my parents owned many books and magazines that they read on a daily basis. My mother enjoyed reading her gossip magazines that she would receive in the mail once a month and my father had a whole bookshelf full of history books. My parents would always encourage me to read the books I would check out at the school library to improve my reading and writing but that advice usually went in through one ear and out the other. The only books I would really attempt to read had to be humorous or horrifying, my favorites were the Goosebumps collection. I loved reading these books alone in my room where I couldn’t be sidetracked by all the commotion that went on in my house.…
