Personal Essay: My First Day At Harrow

Just this past January, my business solicitor and second father, Hanson, did me a great service and obtained my allowance to attend Harrow. Harrow is a boarding school, which only has boys, which makes me very excited indeed, as I will have fellows with which I can roughhouse (The Byron Chronology). Today is my first day at Harrow and already I have a tutor by the name of Henry Dury. He is the son of the headmaster and I feel as though I am already making connections to the top. He is quite a dull man, though, and I have perhaps thought to call him Henry Dully as it seems more appropriate for his character. The school is only eleven miles due northwest from town which means on my days off I can stroll into town with my new friends (The Byron Chronology). Did I mention I have made new friends? Well, it is the truth and they are called Edward Noel Long, Robert Peel, Lord Delawarr, and William Harness. They are excellent fellows and some of the finest men around in this place of education. It is titled Fugitive Pieces and I am very enthused about this as this could be a real turning point in my career- this is how I would feel had a specific person by the name of Reverend John Beecher had not felt he needed to be a critic of my work (Poetry Foundation). He said my poems were too personal in nature, but I do not know what he was to expect. I had gathered inspiration for my poems from my relationships, both plutonic and romantic, as well as my experiences outside of these relationships, and the poems resulting from these experiences would be nothing short of personal. In a rage, after finding out about these criticisms, I went to the publication house and destroyed almost every copy of it I could find (The Byron Chronology). Perhaps the lack of them all together would please the Reverend more than my poems ever
