He said my poems were too personal in nature, but I do not know what he was to expect. I had gathered inspiration for my poems from my relationships, both plutonic and romantic, as well as my experiences outside of these relationships, and the poems resulting from these experiences would be nothing short of personal. As a student, most would agree that every year brings its own set of challenges. But with each difficult situation, both inside and outside the classroom, many students can take comfort in the fact that they are not alone. Universally, all students experience, to some level, a degree of commonality within their educational journeys. From strenuous exams to conflicts with family, it is this shared experience that binds us all together. In Richard Rodriguez’s essay “The Achievement of Desire”, he relates his own story of education and being a student to Richard Hoggart’s “scholarship boy”.…

Only a chapter in a book by Richard Hoggart…” (Rodriguez 354). Ironically, he found the answers he was looking for in books; more specifically a book that contained a chapter that clearly describe him and his education in the “scholarship boy”. To Rodriguez, the isolation and loneliness he felt during his long academic journey was a necessary step to reach the “end of education” (Rodriguez…
