While attending my first college English class we focused on four main strategies when developing essays throughout the semester. These four strategies or processes where among the most common when developing and creating an essay which are journaling and in class free writing, peer-review sessions, group work, and multi-drafting or revising. I had learned most of these previously in high school so I had no problem with them and if I did the learning curve was almost nonexistent.
The first one being journaling and in-class free writing I felt was the second most helpful. The reason that this was such a help to me was because for me one of the hardest parts of developing and creating an essay is the beginning. Through mainly the in-class free writing I could put everything out there on a piece of paper with no

One of the most important lessons that I learned was that it is very wise to make an appointment if you are going to need to talk or interview a professional or someone you need to get information from. Because from personal experience implications can come up as I was going to walk in and talk to my interviewee as I knew him personally and is schedule I though. So, when I went in to talk to him it turns out he was at a wedding across the country.
The strengths and weaknesses of my research paper. Starting out I think the weaknesses of my research paper would have to start with the revisions and fixing the technical issues I did not give my best effort into my research paper and most the time period of which we were given to work of the paper I did not, procrastinating. I wrote one “source-based argumentative essay” in high school: my final essay from sophomore English. The guidelines were to write a four to eight page paper on any topic of your choice, but the thesis of the paper had to come across clearly. At the time, my personal goals were to write about something no one else would, as well as get an A in the class. As a future collegiate writer, I feel as though I have the habits and potential strengths to be successful, but my biggest weakness is that I do not know how to write a professional essay and I am a reluctant editor.…

Throughout the first semester of College Composition, I wrestled with three essays, all differing in format and content. The first was a narrative that reflected our educational experience. After this came an analysis of a visual text, followed by a research paper. The narrative was the easiest to write; however, I acquired important skills for writing the other two, which were in a less familiar format. With the three essays, I learned about my own writing skills and habits concerning development and critical thinking, time management, and organization.…

To me, writing is just ok, nothing special. It definitely isn’t something I get excited about. My first formal writing class was in 6th grade, where we followed The Institute for Excellence in Writing’s curriculum. My fellow classmates and I mainly wrote short, 1-3 paragraph reports on various historical topics. I did well in these classes, I just never really enjoyed the process of writing.…

I have also learned and demonstrated that I am capable of producing well written papers and essays In the past four years the areas of writing that I have been the most successful in are essays because I can quickly write on the topic, then compared to my ability to write with nothing to start off of. But over the past four years my ability has significantly increased, I have gone from starting sentences with the same word consistently, and making punctuation errors to making very few. I also had errors in my citations, explanations, and the amount of times that…

If I was writing a paper that required a specific number of paragraphs or pages I would typically plan my paper using the four square method. If I was writing an important paper I would write a rough draft, then as I was typing it I would revise it and fix any mistakes I found. One thing that remained consistent in my writing process, no matter the type of paper, is after I wrote the paper I would try to find more grade level appropriate words instead of the simple words I originally used. While writing essays for this class I came to find it is better to combine my writing processes to write the best possible essay I could. I found the best steps for me to take in writing my paper are to write my ideas down in some form.…

Throughout this semester of English 101, writing has become more of a skill than a struggle. Writing was a challenge that I dreaded when I chose to be in the course, nonetheless with time, I learned from my mistakes and was able to improve. This course made me very doubtful on whether I could be capable of even writing a paper that would provide me with a decent grade, but at the same time made me push myself in my writing technique. In the end, I can reflect that I learned from my mistakes and wrote papers that took time and dedication to accomplish. I learned from this class to be confident in my writing and make all the mistakes to receive the grade I want in the end.…

When I was young I was never the best at reading even though my parents owned many books and magazines that they read on a daily basis. My mother enjoyed reading her gossip magazines that she would receive in the mail once a month and my father had a whole bookshelf full of history books. My parents would always encourage me to read the books I would check out at the school library to improve my reading and writing but that advice usually went in through one ear and out the other. The only books I would really attempt to read had to be humorous or horrifying, my favorites were the Goosebumps collection. I loved reading these books alone in my room where I couldn’t be sidetracked by all the commotion that went on in my house.…
