My Financial Genogram

Creating a financial genogram was a really interesting way to discover things I had never known about my family and to realize how many people went to school and got their college degree. I found out traits that my family members share, which helped me to discover more about myself and explained why I behave the way I do.
All of my dad’s family members are all dead except for my step aunt who is still alive. She is an accountant and works in University back in Nigeria. My paternal grand-parents were mostly farmers. According to my mother, most of my dad’s siblings went to school and graduated from college. As it is stated in the genogram, both my uncles are university graduates. He didn’t finish his education rather he went on to become a business man. He was the first to bring raw electricity in their village. My dad loved to travel and he amassed some fortune as a business man. My mom was born on June 7, 1947. She only has a high school diploma, but went on to receive her Doctorate in Business. She is also caretaker, love to help other people in need. Her first money memory was in the year 1973. According to my mom, she bought merchandise to sell and in return she made double gain. She learned how to manage money during the civil war where she mostly supplied food to the soldiers such as yam, cassava, vegetables and pumpkin seeds. During the civil war, my dad travelled out of the country leaving her with the family. I really enjoyed digging into my past. I thought I knew everything about my family, but I never really thought about my family’s level of education. I think my family gives a great example of how the level of education has increased throughout every generation. I also think with the level of education, the job profession changes as well. I noticed that every one of my family members are a hard worker. There is definitely see a college pattern. I also see how business runs in the family. My mum has always pushed my siblings and me to strive hard and have high education goals because she never had the opportunity to continue her education. I know my Mom regrets not finishing college. She really pushes me and is so proud of me furthering my education with graduate school. My dad passed away when I was very young, and I hope he is proud of me from up there. We are all hard worker and dedicated people. My mum is a hard worker, responsible, reliable, determined and confident in all that she does. I strive to be all of these traits daily.
